TANNER FAMILY CEMETERY

Located in Section 36, Jackson Township, Adams County, Wisconsin, east of the current Rodger farm buildings, on a hill. 
It is south of Fur Avenue, and along the west side of 1st Court. It is on the east side of the Ray Rodger farm. It was 
an early cemetery on the Tanner land, which later became the Rodger, Huber and Flook farms. At one time there was a fence 
around the graves on this cemetery hill. Today all that remains is a sandy piece of ground with some trees and brush. The 
following people are known to have been buried in this cemetery. All information is from the writings of Frieda Crothers,

CROTHERS, Margaret Graham
Transcriber's Note: Frieda Crothers' notes in possession of her son William R. Crothers says Margaret traveled to Jackson 
Township, Adams County, with her two sons, James Crothers Sr. and Robert Crothers and their two families from Pike 
River, Quebec, Canada in 1856. Enroute they stopped and visited Margaret's sister, Nancy McLain in Brandon, Wisconsin. 
They arrived at Jordan Lake on August 7, 1856. She lived back and forth between the two sons until she died in 1858.

MCLAIN, Nancy
Sister of Margaret G. Crothers. Transcriber's Note: The 1870 census of Jackson Township lists her as Nancy Merlain aged 
77, female, white, keeping house, born in Ireland, both parents foreign born, cannot read or write living in the James 
Crothers home. She is not listed in the 1875 census. Frieda Crothers notes says that at one time, about 1856, she lived 
in Brandon, Wisconsin.

EVANS, Infant
Infant of Jacob Evans, buried near the fence. Transcriber's Note: The 1860 census of Jackson Township, Adams County, 
Wisconsin lists a Jacob Evans, aged 35, born in Pennsylvania, family not at home at the time the census was taken. 
His wife is listed as Thurissa, (Theresa), aged 25, born in Pennsylvania. The following children are listed, William, 
aged 3, born in Wisconsin, Mary, aged 2, born in Wisconsin and George, aged 5 months, born in Wisconsin. The 1870 
census of Jackson Township lists, J. C. Evans, aged 37, born in Pennsylvania, his wife, Theressa (Theresa), aged 31,
born in Pennsylvania and the following children, William, aged 14, born in Wisconsin and in school, Mary, aged 12, 
born in Wisconsin and in school, George, aged 10, born in Wisconsin and in school, Daniel, aged 9, born in Wisconsin 
and in school, Hannah, aged 7 born in Wisconsin and Carrie, aged 1, born in Wisconsin. Thurissa's, (Theresa) maiden 
name was Jackson according to information of some of her children that is listed in the Lakeview Cemetery. She is also 
buried in that cemetery with the following information: Thurrissa S. Evans, wife of Jacob Evans and daughter of Margaret 
and George Jackson, born 16 December 1840 in Erie County, Pennsylvania and died 1 February 1902, age 60 years, 1 month 
and 15 days. Jacob is listed in the same cemetery with the following information: Jacob C. Evans, son of William and 
Elizabeth (nee Morgan) Evans and father of William, Mary, George, Daniel, Elnora, Emma, Cora, Eva, Charles, Elizabeth, 
Frank, Minnie and Isabelle. He was born on 12 August 1835 in Minersville, Pennsylvania and died 20 July 1910 in Big 
Spring, Wisconsin. He was in the Civil War, Private in Company K, 42nd Regiment, Wisconsin.
