Opal M. Duncan (1887-1972)
and a young man believed to be her nephew, Byron G. Ward (1912-2004).
When Opal's sister, Myrtle, died in 1917, Opal relocated to Wisconsin from
Sangamon County, IL in order to help raise her nephew, Byron. She
is listed as a school teacher in the 1920 census of Maple Plain, living
in the household of her widowed brother-in-law, Lee Ward. She also
appears in the 1930 census of Cumberland City as a restaurant cook, still
living with Lee and Byron. Opal's brother, Springer Duncan and his
family also lived in Maple Plain. The photo is undated but ca 1932.
