Burnett Co. Mailing List

The Burnett County mailing list was started to enable fellow genealogists and historians to communicate with one another on issues of research in Burnett Co, WI.  If you have a desire to talk with others who may be looking for the same info as you, or if you have information to share, please come and join us.  It's easy, it's fun, and it's free! 

To subscribe to the Burnett County mailing list, just send a message to: 

                     WIBURNET-L-request@rootsweb.com

In the body of the message type the word  "subscribe" (without the quotes - if you have a signature line, please turn that off too, otherwise, your request will not work!)  You will be added to the mailing list in the "mail mode" -- which means you will receive the messages as they are sent out, one at a time.

If you are interested in getting your mail in one lump, then you are welcome to subscribe to the "digest mode" of the mailing list.  To do this, just send a message to: 

                     WIBURNET-D-request@rootsweb.com

Again, type the word "subscribe" (without the quotes and with your
signature line turned off)! 

To post a message to both WIBURNET-L and WIBURNET-D, send your messages to:   WIBURNET-L@rootsweb.com  (this is a "closed" mailing list, meaning you must join if you want to participate.) 

Once you are subscribed to the mailing list, you will receive confirmation along with a welcome letter which tells you more about  your subscription. 

This list is for the discussion of Burnett Co. Genealogy and History.   This includes historical sketches, census data, genealogies, vital records, immigration, family Bibles, settlements, web sites, etc. as they relate to Burnett Co.  Please keep your discussions within these guidelines. 

• Give public announcements of information that is of genealogical interest AS THEY PERTAIN TO BURNETT COUNTY.  Please use discretion!  If you have a question, please contact the list owner. 
• Try to keep "quoting" to a minimum.  Quoting is repeating text of a message you are replying to.  Some quoting is necessary to remind others what the thread is about, but please do not quote large postings (Digest listers, please refrain from sending a copy of the whole digest when you reply!) 
• You may add a list of surnames, but please try to limit them to 6 names or so.  If you have more, feel free to rotate them with each succeeding message. 

• Send virus warnings, test messages, chain letters, items for sale, etc. For information on virus hoaxes see http://www.kumite.com/myths/ among others. 
• Please do not send file attachments.  If you have a file you would liketo share with others, announce what you have, then send the file to only those who request it, via your private email. 
• No rude comments, swearing, or flaming is allowed on this list! 
• Do not impose any other rules or conditions upon this list. 
• Do not try to regulate this list.  If you don't like the way someone formats their queries or responses, take it up with the list owner, NOT on the list! 
• This list is for Genealogy and History ONLY! 
• Selling items, or announcing items for sale (such as Ebay), is not allowed on the mail list and is against the Rootsweb AUP.  Doing this is cause to be expelled from the list.
