Emma Jane (Chase) Ellis:

After being an invalid for upwards of 3 yrs., Mrs. Ellis departed this life on Mon. night. Mrs. Ellis has been a patient sufferer. Her pleasant, patient disposition has been a source of comfort to those who have ministered to her & memories of the dear, good mother, the loving, sympathetic sister and the kindly, affectionate neighbor will linger with all through unending time.

Emma Jane Chase was born in Mercer Co., OH., Nov. 29, 1847. She came to Dane Co., WI. in 1853 where she lived until 1865 or 1866 when she came to Chase Settlement in Chippewa Co. Here she was mar: to Pliny Ellis on March 22 1868. In 1869, they moved to Cooks Valley, where they lived until abt. a year ago when the fam. moved into this village.

The Ellis home has been made glad by the birth of thirteen children, ten of whom are living. They are: Mrs. Ida Bitney of Okee, Wi., Perry and Mrs. Hannah LaBaron of Waukegan, Ill., Mrs. Grace Nichols of Colfax, Mrs. Emma Leihe of Luddon, N.D., Pliny of Baraboo & Charley and the Misses Lulu, Lucy, & Rose Ellis of this village. Sev. bros., sisters, grandchdn. & other relatives, together with a host of old friends & neighbors, are left to mourn her demise.

The funeral will be held this afternoon at the United Brethren church, Rev. H. A. Smelzer officiating. Bur: Chase Settlement Cem. Nearly all the chdn., together with sev. relatives & friends from out of town will be present at the funeral.
