Edna Bernice (Mercier) Ryan Long OBITUARY - EDNA RYAN LONG Edna Ryan Long, 94, of 230 E. 4th Avenue, Stanley, died Tuesday, March 19, 2002, at Victory Medical Center in Stanley. She was born August 23, 1907, in rural Boyd, the daughter of Albert and Agnes (Boudin) Mercier. She graduated from Boyd High School and was on the basketball team. She then attended St. Paul Business College. Edna married James Ryan in St. Paul, Minnesota, in 1934. After their marriage they lived in Winnipeg, Canada until moving to Victoria, British Columbia in 1948. James passed away in 1950. She moved back to the Stanley area in 1961. In 1962 she married Arthur Long in Stanley and resided there since. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. Edna was known as a lady of class, refinement and a joy to all those whom she met. She is survived by: her children, James Ryan (friend Michael) of Richfield, Minnesota, Allan (Delores) Long of Stanley, Thomas (Nancy) Long of Warrenville, Ill.; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Besides her first husband, she was also preceded in death by: her second husband, Arthur: five brothers, Clement, William, Henry, Joseph and Albert Mercier; and two sisters, Delvina Marsh and Sr. Roselda (Irene). A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Family Catholic Church, Stanley, with Father Robert Nelson officiating. Burial (Edna was cremated) will be in Royal Oak Cemetery in Royal Oak, British Columbia, Canada, at a later date. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
