OBITUARY

SISTER ROSELDA MERCIER, O.S.F.

Sister Roselda Mercier (79) of the Hospital Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis died on Wednesday, August 24, 1988 at the Motherhouse, St. Francis Convent, Springfield, Illinois.

Sister Roselda (Irene Mercier) was born in Cornell, Wisconsin on June 24, 1909. She entered the Congregation, September 27, 1930 and pronounced her religious vows on May 18, 1933.

Sister Roselda was a teacher before she entered the Congregation and in 1936 she became a registered nurse having received her training at St. John's Hospital School of Nursing. She also received a degree in Medical Technology. She served as Supervisor of the Laboratory and organized the School of Medical Technology at St. John's. She also served at St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Belleville, and St. Joseph's Hospital, Chippewa Falls, WI until her retirement to the Mothehouse in 1987 due to illness.

Survivors are two sisters, Mrs. Edna Long of Stanley, Wisconsin and Mrs. Delvina Marsh, St. Paul, Minnesota and two brothers, Mr. Clem Mercier, St. Paul, MN and Mr. Albert Mercier, Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, several nieces and nephews, including her priest - nephew, Rev. Msgr. Joseph Mercier, pastor of Sacred Heart Parish, Pass Christian, Mississippi.

Visitation will be on Thursday, August 25, 1988 from 4:00 to 8:00 P. M. with a wake service at 6:30 P. M. at St. Francis Convent.

The Eucharistic Celebration and Rite of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, August 26 at 9:00 A. M. in St. Francis of Assisi Church at the Motherhouse. Burial will be at Crucifixion Hill Cemetery at the Motherhouse. Kirlin, Egan & Butler Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
