1949 Reburial Services To Be Held For Ronald Verkuilen The casketed remains of Ronald William Verkuilen, Pharmacist mate 2/c Stanley's first World War 11 casuality, arrived Wednesday morning with military escortand were met by family membersand representitives of the American Legion, Veterans of Forgein Wars and Civil dignitaries. Reburial services were at St. Ann's church, Thursday morning with Father Pitzenberger offering the requim mass and military rites under ma ???(unable to read) of Richard Brown Post Veterans of Forgein Wars and Victory Post 112 of the American Legion. The rosary was offered at Plombon's Funeral Home Wednesday evening. Ronald Verkuilen, Pharmacist mate 2/c was killed in the Battle of Saipan on June 29, 1944. He enlisted in the navy in 1942, on his seventeenth birthday, he was a junior in High School. After completing his boot training at Great Lakes--he was sent to San Diego. He then transferred in a hospital unit of the Marine Corps. and served in the second Marine division, serving six months in the South Pacific. Ronald was born in Athens, March 27, 1925, son of Mary and the late Albert Verkuilen. He moved to Stanley with his parents when he was seven years old. He attended St. Ann's parochial school and Stanley High School. Survivors are his mother, three brothers, Lawrence of Milwaukee; charles of West Allis; Albert C. of Detroit, and two sisters, Mrs. Rinehart (Magdaline) Rubenzer of Chippewa Falls,and Mrs. Paul (Norene) Zais of Stanley. his father died in April 1948 and a brother Frank preceded him in death.
