Ransom Hutchins

OLD SOLDIER PASSES AWAY
Ransom Hutchins dies. He marched with Sherman to the Sea.
Ransome Hutchins was born Oct. 4th, 1843 in the town of Scruple, Onongaga County, New York and died at his home in Loyal Jan. 20th, 1917. He came to Wisconsin with his parents when he was nine years old, settling on a farm in Auburn, Fond du Lac county.

Durning the Civil War he entered Company E, 17th Regiment, Wisconsin Infantry, and recieved an honorable discharge at Louisville, KY on July 14th, 1865. He was in Shermans army, and in the battles of Jonesboro, Lovejoy Station, Siege of Savannah, Orangeburg, Fayetteyville, and also in the Grand Review at Washington D. C. May 25th, 1865.

On March 27th, 1870 at Dundee, township of Oscelola, he meet and married to Miss Lorinda Sheldon. In April 1887 he moved his family to Cl ark county where he has since resided. To this union were born eight children, Warren, Clarence, Eliza (Nichols), Anna (Smith), Oscar, Emily, and Lela (Lyon) all of whom survive him besides his wife and one sister Martha (Gudex) of Campbellsport.

His health failed him in December 1911 and about this time his eye sight also failed. He has been a great sufferer although thinking more of the care he was making others, than of his own suffereings. He was a man that commanded the respect of all.

Funeral services were held at this Methodist church in this place Wednesday afternoon. Rev. Braddick of Spencer officiating. He was laid to rest in the Loyal Cemetery.
