The Tomah railroad will doubtless be completed to this place within a year.

The people are energetic and full of western sociality. Two months in the year, small steamers can come up the river to this place. Jackson County has a population of about 8,000, a vast expanse of good farming land, scores of beautiful trout streams, and a goodly amount of pineland.

In the county, aside from those in the village, there are thirty sawmills, half a dozen gristmills, and others in process of construction.

Any man of good habits and possessed of energy, whether he has any money or not, can soon make himself a pleasant home and good farm in Jackson county. Mechanics of all kinds find plenty of employment, at good wages, in Black River Falls. Situated in the County are several prosperous little villages of which we shall speak in due time.

Young men of Pennsylvania, New York and New England States, break away from your old haunts among mountains and rocks, and come where there is room for you to expand--where you can be of some use.
