Edmund Omdoll
Obituary (Township of Palmyra Resident) --- dated 4 Jun 1915
Last Saturday morning this neighborhood lost one of its old and respected residents, when Edmund Omdol passed away. He was born in Skein, Norway, March 4, 1838. In 1850, he came with his parents to this country and settled on the farm, where he died, and which had always been his home. In 1861, he was married to Christine Wenstep, who preceded him to the better land, Sept 23, 1881. Soon after they were married came the call of Lincoln for volunteers. He enlisted and served his country until he was discharged.
He took part in the Battle of Gettysburg and other battles and often spoke of Gen Sheridan and of Shermans march to the sea. He was the father of six children; Ella, who died Nov 28, 1896; James, on the homestead; Nettie, Mrs Herman Jolliffe of Palmyra; Ida, Mrs Herbert Wright of Wausau; Sam of Whitewater; and Julia, Mrs Frank Hackett of Palmyra. He also leaves 29 grandchildren. Mr Omdoll was a member of the Skoponong Lutheran Church and was known as a quiet, but active member always willing to do his part in supporting the church and school. The funeral was held last Monday with a brief service at the house and then taken to the Skoponong church. Rev Linnevold officiated. Pallbearers were P A Peterson, Dan Ewins, Asa Meracle, Frank Redding, H Halverson and C Mason.
Buried in the Shoponong Cemetery, Young Rd, West of County H. Palmyra, Jefferson Co., WI.
