LangHOLFF, ROBERT C. --Age 87, of Roseburg, Oregon passed away on Friday,
June 6, 2003. He was born on November 30, 1915 in Ft. Atkinson, Wisconsin to
Gilbert and Johanna Marie (Fry) Langholff. On November 3, 1940, Robert
married Barbara Cloake in Roseburg Oregon. They were together for 62 1/2
years. In 1943, he went into the United States Navy during WWII and served
as a torpedo man aboard the USS Healy. Robert helped guide the USS Healy
into Tokyo Bay, escorting the USS Missouri. He watched the signing of the
peace treaty between the United States and Japan through binoculars. Robert
worked for Douglas County Oregon for 39 years as an engineer and bridge
superintendent. The Robert C. Langholff Bridge at Loon Lake was named in
honor of him after his retirement in 1980. He was one of the first charter
members of the 1st Conservative Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday
school for over 40 years. Robert also served on the Salvation Army board for
several years. He loved to share his garden and flowers with friends and
neighbors. Robert is preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Johanna
Fry Langholff; brothers, Leroy and Clarence Langholff; sister, Pauline Roth;
and granddaughter, Laura Michele Langholff. He is survived by his wife,
Barbara of Roseburg; son, Gilbert and his wife, Leta Langholff of Idaho
Falls, Idaho; son, Wayne and his wife, Marilyn of Edison, New Jersey; eight
grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 23, 2003 in the
1st Conservative Baptist Church, 2245 NW Kline Street, Roseburg, Oregon.
Graveside committal will follow within the grounds of Roseburg Memorial
Gardens. Pastors Steve Reischke and Joe Heidrick will be officiating. In
lieu of flowers donations can be made to the 1st Conservative Baptist Church
in Roseburg Oregon. LONG AND SHUKLE MEMORIAL CHAPEL will be in charge of the
arrangements.
