Ozro W. Eddy was engaged in general farming on sestion 25, Whearland Township,
Kenosha County was a native of the Empire State. He was born in Orleans County
NY on the 12th of April, 1838 - his parents being Willard and Hannah (Boies)
Eddy. The family was founded in this country in early Colonial days. The
grandparents of our subject Esic and Annie (Cutler) Eddy, were both natives of
Connecticut, where they were also married and reared a family of 7 children. In
an early day they emigrated to New York, locating in Erie county, where they
spent their remaining days. Esic was a blacksmith by trade and his wife, Annie,
was a weaver. Willard Eddy, father of Ozro was born in Greenfield NY, 23rd of
July 1800 and remained with his parents until his 32nd year when on 25th of
August 1831 he was united in marriage in Boston, Erie county NY with Miss Hannah
Boies, a native of Crafton NH (born 14th of July, 1816).In 1843 they emigrated
west to WI to Southport, now Kenosha, WI with a horse-team and after 24 days of
travel located in Brighton Township where they remained for one summer. On the
10th of December 1843 they took up their residence in Wheatland Township the
present home of Ozro Eddy. Willard died in 1847 leaving Hannah to raise 6 of
their 8 children : Ann born 5 January, 1833, Oscar C. 3 April 1834, Adaline 30
October 1836, Ozro W. 12 April 1838, Orlando 7 March 1841, Orlando Allen born ?
1842, Alma 28 July 1844, Ozias 15 September 1846, and Almira twin of Ozias. Both
Ozias and Almira died young.
Ozro Eddy left home in 1864 when he was drafted for service in the Civil War
for one year. He became a member of Co.A 18th WI Infantry and served until the
cessation of the hostilities. He participated in the battle of Kingston and was
with Sherman's Army at the time of his discharge in Washington on the 2nd of
June, 1865. On the 10th of March, 1873, Ozro was joined in wedlock with Miss
Mary Potter who was born in Lake Co. IL on 14 of August, 1851- the daughter of
George and Matilda (Brown) Potter who are of English and Irish extraction. Six
children were born of this union of whom 5 grew to maturity- Mamie born 18 July
1875, Willie O. 26 July 1878, Clara E, 20th November 1880, Ernest G. 23 August
1882 and Ralph H. @9 september 1888. Ozro Eddy was honored with the office of
Constable in which position he served for 9 years and for 16 years was Justice
