Eugene H. Amory Biography
As published in
"The City of Kenosha and Kenosha County Wisconsin: A Record of Settlement,
Organization, Progress and Achievement"
by Frank H. Lyman Vol. 2, The S. J. Clarke Publishing Co., Chicago, 1916.
The personnel of the N. R. Allen's Sons Company is a notable one. Its officers
and executive head are men of broad business experience, well trained to the
point of efficiency and expertness in the line to which they are devoting their
energies. Such a one is Eugene H. Amory, who in December 1913, came to Kenosha
as superintendent of the largest plant owned individually in any civilized
country. He is a native son of America's metropolis, his birth having occurred
in New York on the 28th of December, 1886, his parents being John J. and Mary S.
Amory. The father, a boat builder, has devoted his entire life to that pursuit,
and both he and his wife are still residents of New York.
At the usual age, Eugene H. Amory entered the public schools of his native city,
and afterward became a student in the Pennsylvania Military College, where he
pursued a civil engineering course, being graduated with the class of 1904. He
started out in practical business life in connection with the United States
Leather Company, securing an humble position. The qualities which work for
success - energy, determination and persistency of purpose, - however, were soon
manifest and gradually he worked his way upward. He spent fourteen months in
Germany, France, and England, studying the leather business in every phase, and
following his return he was made superintendent of the plant of the United
States Leather Company in Paw Paw, West Virginia. There he continued until
December 1913, when he came to Kenosha, and has since been superintendent with
the N. R. Allen's Sons Company. Only a most throughout trained and expert man
could occupy this position, for as such he has direct supervision over the
labors of eleven hundred workmen in the largest plant owned individually in the
world.
On the 24th of February, 1914, Eugene H. Amory was married to Miss Nell D.
Moore, of Pittsburgh, and they have a son, Eugene H., Jr. Mr. Amory gives his
political endorsement to the republican party, and is well versed on the
questions and issues of the day, but concentrates his attention upon his
business affairs. In his vocabulary there is no such word as fail, and already
he has attained a position notable for one of his years - an indication of still
greater success in the future.
