Organization, Progress and Achievement"

V. V. Barnes, proprietor of the Barnes Dairy, enjoys an enviable reputation as
one of the enterprising and successful young business men of Kenosha. His birth
occurred in Stockport, Ohio, on the 27th of May, 1889, his parents being Joseph
and Sarah (Nott) Barnes, who were there born, reared and married and are still
residents of the Buckeye state. He pursued his education in the schools of Ohio
and in 1905, when a youth of sixteen, came to Kenosha, here securing employment
in a factory. Two and one-half years ago he erected his present plant, eighteen
by thirty-six feet, and has since successfully conducted a dairy with a capacity
of fifteen cans of milk daily. He also manufactures cottage cheese and other
dairy products and is accorded an extensive patronage that makes the undertaking
a profitable one.
In 1910 Mr. Barnes was united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth Prott, a native of
Kenosha and a daughter of Anton Prott. They have two children, Vernon and
Virginia, and live in the same house in which Mrs. Barnes was born. Politically
Mr. Barnes is a non-partisan and in religious faith a Catholic, being a devout
communicant of St. George's church. Both he and his wife have an extensive and
favorable acquaintance here and the hospitality of the best homes is freely
accorded them.
