"The City of Kenosha and Kenosha County Wisconsin: A Record of Settlement,
Organization, Progress and Achievement"
by Frank H. Lyman Vol. 2, The S. J. Clarke Publishing Co., Chicago, 1916.
Among those active in real estate and insurance in Kenosha is Herbert M. Yule
and during the two years in which he has carried on business along that line he
has built up a large clientage. He was born in this city February 17, 1879, a
son of Robert B. and Mary C. (Cady) Yule, who were early residents of Kenosha
County. The paternal grandparents settled here in pioneer days but both are now
deceased. Their son, Robert B. Yule, was born on a farm in the town of Somers
and always devoted his attention to the occupation of farming through the period
of his boyhood and youth. Later, however, he entered the employ of the Bain
Wagon Company and rose to the position of foreman. Subsequently he removed to
Chicago, where he engaged in the coal and expressing business until his
retirement from active life. His last days were spent in Kenosha, where his
widow still resides.
At the usual school age Herbert M. Yule began his education in Kenosha, passing
through consecutive grades to the high school, and when his textbooks were put
aside he obtained a position in the Simmons factory, but realizing how
advantageous further education would be, especially along mechanical lines, he
entered a manual training school in Chicago, where he pursued a three years'
course. He then returned to Kenosha and accepted a clerical position in the
Jeffery automobile factory. He there continued until about two years ago, when
he turned his attention to the real estate and insurance business. He handles
local property and keeps in touch with market values, knowing thoroughly the
real estate business in its every phase. He has made himself equally familiar
with the insurance business and handles fire, tornado and automobile insurance.
On the 29th of August 1906, Mr. Yule was united in marriage to Miss Catherine De
Frang, who was born in Kenosha, and they now have two children, Gordon B. and
Donald Lewis. Mr. Yule was reared in the Methodist faith, while his wife is a
member of the Catholic church. In politics he maintains a non-partisan attitude
save where questions of national importance are involved, when he votes with the
Republican party. He belongs to the Royal League and is interested in questions
and concerns of the present day but does not seek to figure prominently in
office, preferring to concentrate his energies upon his business affairs. It is
this determination to stick closely to business and to win his success along the
lines of earnest, self-denying effort that is bringing him forward to the point
of prosperity.
