The following appeared in the
WSGS Newsletter Vol. 29 No. 2 September 1982

From the Kenosha County Board Proceedings

V.1, p.116 - Feb. 26, 1853 "...the name of "MARY BLACK" an adopted child of F.A. MARSHALL of the city of Kenosha be and hereby is changed to the name of MARY BLACK MARSHALL and she is hereby declared to be entitled to all the rights which a natural born child of said F.A. MARSHALL might legally possess." In the petition praying the Board to alter the name, MARY BLACK is described as "an orphan child and an adopted daughter of said petitioner."

V-1, p. 127 - Nov. 18, 1853 "the name of ROSETTA ANITTA JOHNSON an adopted daughter of H.V. TRAIN of the town of Salem be and hereby is changed to ROSETTA ANITTA TRAIN and she is hereby declared to be entitled to all the rights which a natural born child of said H.V. TRAIN might legally possess. - Dated at Kenosha 21st Nov. 1853" The petition for alteration of the name was presented to the Board Nov. 15, 1853 (v. 1, p. 120) and was in the names of H.V. TRAIN and SIMON JOHNSON. ROSETTA is described as "the daughter of said JOHNSON and the adopted daughter of MR. TRAIN."

V.1, p.130 - Nov. 21, 1853 "...the name of MARK RUFUS COCK an inhabitant of the town of Pleasant Prairie be and hereby is changed to MARK RUFUS COOK and the provisions of this order are to be construed to embrace each individual member of the family of said COCK whose surname shall hereafter be COOK." The petition for alteration was presented by R.B. TOWSLEE.

1, p.61 - Nov. 17, 1851 "On motion the. sume of thirty-five (dollars) was ordered to be paid for Sending Mrs. ROBINSON and family to her friends in New Hampshire..."

V.1, P-64 - Nov 18, 1851 - WM. H. SCOTT was paid $5.00 for a coffin for "MR. ROBINSON - Pauper - Kenosha".

v.1, P.61 - Nov. 17, 1851 "...Mrs. LAMBERT (a county pauper) be permitted to carry her deceased child to Brighton for burial and the expense of same to be paid out of the Treasury of the County." This was so ordered by the County Board.

Concordia Maennerchor

From: "The History of Racine and Kenosha Counties" (Chicago: 1879), p. 544
Concordia Maennerchor - a German singing society organized in 1866, by five musical Germans; re-organized January 15, 1879; now has twenty-two members. The objects of the society are mutual improvement and public amusement under the directorship of F. Beckman. The officers are: Geore Laib, President; Christian Stoebig, Secretary; and Paul Sauber, Treasurer. Weekly meetings of the society are held Monday evening, in the Hall over Sauber's store, on Main Street.

Kenosha Baseball Club

Kenosha Baseball Club has been in existance since the summer of 1874, and furnishes abundant entertainment to admirers of the "national game" annually. Its present manager is E. C. Thiers, and the following gentlemen constitute the nine: H. Lance, first base; H. Adams, second; Charles Fax, third; L. Hoyt, short-stop; E. C. Thiers, catcher; W. Yule, H. R. Simmons, J. Hogan and L. M. Thiers, fielders.
