A BRIEF HISTORY

Manitowoc County is situated in Eastern Wisconsin along the Lake Michigan shorline. The county was created in 1836 prior to Wisconsin's statehood and was organized in 1848, the county seat is Manitowoc. Adjacent counties are: Brown County - northwest; Kewaunee County - northeast; Sheboygan County - south; Calumet County - west; Mason County, MI - east & southeast; Manistee County, MI - northeast.
