Emmanuel Ev. Lutheran Church
in Montello, Marquette County, WI
Thank you to our contributors of this information for the Marquette Co WI Pages Emmanuel Ev. Lutheran congregation was organized in July 1866, under Pastor Zerneke. The first church was a log building with a straw roof, and was called the "straw church." In 1874 the present church was built, with a balcony on three sides and a pulpit towering high above the altar. The church has shared pastors with St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church at Montello is considered it's sister congregation. In 1991 the church celebrated its 125th anniversary with approx. 160 members.
