The Montello St. John's is Wisconsin synod, like Emmanuel - Mecan and Princeton St. John's. Until approx. 1881 the Emmanuel records were co-mingled with the records of St. John's of Princeton. I found that statement in the St. John's Montello records, and it should be in both. 1881 is when Pastor Hoyer's son became assistant Pastor in Princeton and they divided the responsibility. This Mecan congregation was served by Princeton due to a split in about 1864 with the others forming Trinity. Emmanuel remained a subcharge of Princeton after they were officially organized by the missionary Zerneke in 1866. Mecan and Montello were made a joint parish in 1884. In the H.C.E. (Home and Community Educators) book about Marquette County churches, Emmanuel credits their beloved Pastor Hoyer of Princeton with serving it as a preaching station "before this time". The time meant is before their formal organization on July 30, 1866 by Pastor Zerneke. Pastor Hoyer was barely in the US at that time, and they were no doubt served by Pastors Kern and Lucas of Princeton. After a vacancy of about a year, where the Pastor from Berlin is noted as having made several visits to Princeton, they called Pastor Hoyer from Eldorado near Fond du Lac in Spring of 1869, not 1867 as their history says. This would need to be verified by a search of the records, now with Pastor Pless in Princeton, but it seem highly unlikely that since Pastor Lucas was in Princeton from Fall of 1865 until Spring 1868, and the missionary Zerneke was in the area from Spring of 1865 until mid-1867 that Pastor Hoyer would also have been in the area.
