Thank you to our contributors of this information for the Marquette Co WI Pages The Montello St. John's is Wisconsin synod, like Emmanuel - Mecan and Princeton St. John's. St. John's - Crystal Lake was the first of a long time joint parish with St. Paul's - Newton, and Trinity - Mecan. They are Missouri synod. Source: Daryl Weishaar St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church was organized by some Montello Lutheran families ca. 1878, who previously had been attending Emmanuel Ev. Lutheran Church in the Town of Mecan. Their first pastor, Adolph Hoyer, also served St. John's Lutheran in Princeton. In 1884 Pastor Christian Sauer began serving as pastor of the dual parish of St. John and Emmanuel. In September 1884, the two congregations jointly bought property and in 1888 the name selected for the congregation was Evangeliche Lutherischen St. Johannis Gemeinde. In 1889 St. John's joined the Wisconsin Synod. In 1890 St. John's built their first school adjacent to the church.
