Marquette County Wisconsin Census Descriptions and Information

Last updated May 2004

Marquette County census indexes and transcriptions are intended only as a guide and:

--will not usually state every detail of information available on the original record due to time and space limitations. --POB = Place of Birth. --State Names and Foreign Countries are usually spelled out, or are the U.S. Postal Service's 2-letter state name abbreviations. --may not be 100% correct, as the census takers's handwriting and spelling were hard to interpret at times, and the transcribers could have made an occasional error, too. Transcribers were asked to not correct spellings of given and surnames from what was found on the census microfilm. --will not state race unless non-white. If race is stated it will follow the person's age, such as 28m would mean the person was 28 yrs old and was mulatto, or 28b would be the same age except they were black. Race was often only stated on the original census when the person was non-white. --Surnames are listed for head of households or if the person's surname is different from that of head of household. Surnames are not listed if the surname of the person was the same as the person preceding them. --If the placename you are looking for is not found, check this link for your placename of interest: Marquette Co Messageboard for clues and the search engine on the home page of this Marquette Co. website. Please check the original source (microfilm)and use these transcriptions only as a guide.
