Meeting of Soldiers

There was a meeting of Civil War Soldiers from the Montello area at the Court House January 19, 1883, and another meeting of Westfield area old soldiers Feb 2, 1883 at the Central Hotel, for the purpose of forming G.A R Posts. Lieut. M. G. ELLISON was elected chairman and F. H. COUSE elected secretary at the Montello area meeting. At the Westfield area old soldiers meeting, on motion of P. LACKEY the comrades elected H. M. ORMSBY, as President, and H. S. BALL, Secretary. Applications were signed and forwarded to Department Head-quarters G. A. R., with a request that a Post be mustered at Montello and Westfield. Upon motion, the comrades present and all who wish to join the Post are to meet at the call of the President, by notices in the Central Union and Adams County Press. The following is a list of the names of the comrades present, the company and regiment to which they belonged, and the source of the article.
