Search by surname or location in the Wisconsin Historical Society's Wisconsin Genealogy Index containing nearly 16,000 local newspaper articles published statewide between 1860 and 1940. These consist mainly of pioneer reminiscences, portraits of community institutions, interviews with early settlers, strange anecdotes of eccentric personalities, and other grass-roots information. These real stories of real people have not been altered in any way; images of the original newspaper articles display on the researcher's screen. All of them are easy to search by personal name or a variety of subject headings, about 50,000 pages of local history and genealogy in all.
