Research Policy and Membership Information
Marquette County Historical Society memberships, museum admission fees ($1/person) and donations help the society to continue to preserve local history and the museum library while operating the Cochrane-Nelson House, Kerst Exhibit Building (filled with historic artifacts and displays relating to Marquette County History) and the Henry Ellis Railroad Building (dedicated to local railroading history). The MCHS holds a Strawberry Sociable Fund-Raiser, each Father's Day weekend. Regular annual membership dues are $10 per year, and runs from November 1 through October 31. Membership is available at $25 per year for a sustaining membership, and often those buying a sustaining membership are unable to volunteer but wish to provide additional aid for the museum. If you would like to volunteer please include your telephone number and e-mail address. Please enclose a SASE for your membership card if you are not ordering resources at the same time. If you do not wish to receive a membership card and are not sending a SASE, please tell us in your correspondence. The museum library includes genealogy and cemetery records, some old newspapers, diaries and letters, photos, historical albums, ledgers and receipts. Also available are Marquette County Plat Maps (1876, 1900 and 1919), an obituary scrapbook, and filing cabinets filled with information about some families, places and events in Marquette County's history. Fran Sprain, Curator, prefers that researchers visit and research on their own. If you cannot visit, please include a SASE and a $10 donation for each hour of research time requested within the MCHS Collection. A $10 donation per hour of research is also requested if you visit and research on your own within the MCHS facilities. Please note, the Marquette County Historical Society does NOT provide courthouse research. Check the MCHS webpage for more information.
