In the village of Oxford, on the 15th inst., by Thomas B Mack, esq., Mr. John Dewer, 
of Westfield, to Miss Jane E. Marsden, of the former place.  11 May

In Portage City, on the 4th inst., by __ , Mr. Samuel W. Stimpson to Miss Alvira Smith, 
all of this place.  We wish Mr. & Mrs. S. any amount of unalloyed happiness and prosperity 
as they together journey down the steep and rugged path of life, and may the "little 
responsibilities" flock around the hearthstone of the worthy young couple in such profusion 
as to render their stay on earth as perfectly serene as a midsummer morning.   8 Jun.

In the town of Douglas, on the 3rd Inst., by Jotham Pile, esq., Mr. Stephen Miller of 
Montello, to Mrs. Abagail Smith, widow of S. F. Smith.  May their grey hairs turn to 
silken locks their old age into youth, and the honeymoon last a hundred yr.  27 July.

At Smith's Hotel in the village of Oxford, by Thomas Black, esq., Mr. Leuce E. Chamberlian 
of Briggsville to Miss Desire S. Dean of the town of Jackson, Adams Co.   14 September


Died
In Montello, Jan 18, 1864, of phthisis pelmonatis, Catp. Wm. D. Walker, aged 37 yr and 
5 mo.  Capt. Walker has been a resident of this county some eight years. . . 13 Jan 1864.	

In the town of Montello, Feb 12th, John Hays, aged 89yr.  Mr. Hays was a native of Ireland.  
He had lived in the US 23 yr and in this county 13 yr.  The last 3 yr of his life had has 
been totally blind.  He died without any premonition of sickness, the last sand of a long 
life had run out.     17 Feb.

In St. Charles, Winona Co., MN, Dec 5, 1863, of the croop, Nettie, only daughter of  
Loren N & Harriet Maria Chamberlin, aged 15 mo, 5 days.   30 Mar.

In the town of Packwaukee, on Thursday, March 31st, 1864, of pleuso-pneumonia.  Mrs. 
Henrietta, wife of S. R. Rood, esq.  The funeral was attended on Sat. last, by a large 
concourse of people and sympathizing friends.  Sermon by Rev. P. Boynton, of Westfield...6 Apr.

A soldier named Wm. H. Fransler, belonging to Co. G 32nd Reg. Wis. Vol., died very suddenly 
at the Beckwith House in this city, on Friday morning last, of Chronic Diarrhea...from Berlin 
Courant...11 May 1864

At Berlin, Green Lake county, Wis., May 6th, 1864, William H. Fansler, etc. 1 June

Death of Another Soldier, from this County:  B, a private letter from Hon. E. Wheeler, 
M. C., we learn that James Smith, of the 7th Wis. Regt died in a Washington hospital, of 
a wound received in the late battles.  This boy was a stepson of Mrs. S. Miller, of Oxford.   15 Jun

At Decatur, Ala, on the 11th inst., of congestive chills, Wm. A. Farrington, of Co. G, 32nd 
'Regt, Wis. Vols.  Albert was a resident of Harrisville, in this county, and entered the 
service last winter.  He was always lively, cheerful, and generous, and no task so arduous 
or dangerous but what he would accomplish when requested by his superiors.  He was a general 
favorite with his fellow soldiers, and his loss is keenly felt by them all.  May he rest in 
peace.  24 Jun.

The Older boys were brothers, and sons of Amos Older, of Packwaukee.  
P. Winsell is a resident of Harris
Dibble is an orphan boy, with no home.   24 June

notice is hereby given that all persons are forbid trusting her on my account, for I 
shall pay no debts of her contracting after this date.  Dated Westfield, April 1st, 1864.

notice is hereby given that all persons are forbid trusting her on my account, for I shall 
pay no debts of her contracting after this date.  Dated, Crystal Lake, May 7, 1864.

The Portage Register cautions its readers against one Mary Elizabeth Barber.  She is 
traveling about the country seeking employment as a house servant, her object is plunder...   17 Aug.

Notice:  Whereas my wife, Anstina Clockstine, has left my bed and board without cause or 
provocation; notice is hereby given that all persons are forbid trusting her on my account, 
for I shall pay no debts of her contracting after this date.  Dated, Crystal Lake Sept 10, 
1864, signed August Clockstine    14 Sept.

To whom this may concern:
Know all men, that my son, James Mitchell, Jr., aged 17 years, is allowed and permitted 
to deal, contract, and be contracted with, in all things, on his own account; and is, also, 
from this date, in all things entitled to and has his own time, without any concern or 
interference on my part whatever, not in any wise being responsible for his notes, debts,
or contracts, myself.  Dated June 6, 1864, signed James Mitchell.


Emigration:  
There is more than usual emigration, from the county to the West this spring.  On Monday 
of this week twenty three teams and wagons started from the town of Mecan for Minnesota.  
Others have gone before, and some are to go yet.  No doubt many of them will wish themselves 
back again in less that twelve months.   23 May 1864
