Peter A. (picture 2) Ellsworth, Wis. One of the first to volunteer to help fill the ranks of Co. L, 3rd Minn., at Red Wing, Minn. Left for Camp Cody, New Mexico, Aug. 27, 1917, where he was stationed at the time of his death, with Battery H, 125th F.A. Died Feb. 20, 1918, after 3 months' illness of inflammatory rheumatism and pneumonia.

John J. (picture 3) River Falls, Wis. Joined colors at Ellsworth, Wis., July 6, 1918. Went to Columbus, Ohio. Later at Camp Hancock, Ga., with 67th Co., 6th Group Machine Gun Training Center. Died of influenza Oct. 18 at Camp Hancock, Ga.

FINN,
Walter (picture 4) Ellsworth, Wis. Enlisted at Fort Snelling, Minn., in May, 1913. Re-enlisted in 1915. Stationed at Jefferson Barracks, Mo.; Jackson Barracks, La.; and was detailed for duty on the Mexican border at Ft. Sam Houston and at Brownsville. Transferred to 2nd Field Signal Battalion; trained at New York City. Sailed about May 15, 1917, on the Baltic, and landed in France May 28, being with the first American troops on French soil. Trained at Valdahen with French 69th Div. In October the First Div. entered the Sommervillier sector at Lorraine, and sustained first American losses. In Jan., 1918, they relieved 1st Moroccan near Montdidier to stop the drive toward Amiens. Saw severe action at Cantigny, Mt. Blanc, and in the Somme. Cited for bravery by taking eight men and signal light equipment, creeping up the hill beyond the enemy lines; making observations and signalling back to American lines, remaining at his post until the infantry had reached them when all but himself and two others were killed. Again cited for crawling into enemy trenches, placing a sounding plate and wiring it back to gain information. Sgt. Finn was in action at Soissons July 18-24, when he was severely gassed. Taken to Base Hospital at Bordeaux and in Sept. brought back to New Haven, Conn., where he died March 31, 1919.

Laurie W. (picture 5) River Falls, Wis. Joined colors at Ellsworth, Wis., July 6, 1918. Went to Columbus, Ohio, and was rejected. Submitted to an operation upon returning home and was sent to Camp Shelby, Miss., Oct. 23, 1918 where he died of bronchial pneumonia Nov. 6, 1918.
