Legend for Finch Family Plots at Emerald Grove Cemetery

-----

Items in italics are notes and thoughts of researcher.Question marks (?) denote the most likely interpretation of worn inscriptions, but cannot be taken as absolute fact without further documentation. The families of Frank and Cora Finch were researched the same day, but did not fit on the map. An arrow on the map shows the direction of their graves. The information contained on their grave markers is included at the bottom of this legend.

There is quite a lot of extra space surrounding this monument, as if they expected to end up sharing their plots with other relatives. Or perhaps they just liked having a lot of space to themselves.
  10. Grave of Loren Finch.
  11. Grave of Nancy Finch.
  12. Grave of Nelson Finch; born July 15, 1826; died May 10, 1882.

  18. Grave of Bethuel P. Finch. Died May 26, 1866. Aged 42 yrs, 5 mos, and 26 days.
  19. Small grave marked “Willie B”. This Willie is most likely the youngest son of Bethuel Finch and Olive Ann Warner. Although there is a grave for Bethuel, Willie, and Olive Ann’s family, there is no grave marker for Olive Ann, although it is quite likely she is buried on the same plot.
  20. Grave of Mrs. Sally Warner. Sep 21, 1810. Jan 11, 1895. Sally Warner is the mother-in-law to Bethuel P. Finch, the mother of his wife, Olive Ann.
    1. (21a) Grave of Marvin Warner. Nov 24, 1830. Jul 21, 1906. Marvin Warner is most likely the brother of Olive Ann Warner Finch, and the son of Sally Warner.

  21. Grave of Lewis J. Thompson. Died May 26, 1866. Aged 36 yrs, 4 mos, and 24 days. Lewis Thompson and his brother in law Bethuel Finch died the same day; both drowned in the Rock River.
  22. Grave of Phoebe E. Thompson. 1834-1918.
  23. Grave of George C. Thompson. 1858-1926. This is likely the son of Lewis and Phoebe (Finch) Thompson.
  24. Grave marked Robert Henry. Unsure of any relation to the Finches or Thompsons, but the grave is very close to that of George Thompson. Perhaps he is a relative, or perhaps the family sold off some of their plots.
  25. Grave marked Louie Henry. Again, unsure of any relation, but the grave is in very close proximity to the others of the Thompson family.
  26. George and Leda Reeder Monument. George W. Reeder; January 5, 1858; September 10, 1891. Leda R.; 1860-1945.

  28. Stone marked GWR. Likely resting place of George Reeder.
  29. Stone marked Ira Campbell. This is a large, classical (horseshoe) shaped tombstone. Along side of it, nestled into the ground, is a small (at most 6 inches by 6 inches) square stone with the letter “R” inscribed.
