Grandson of Chief Shiiab

Signer of the Treaty of La Pointe, Wisconsin Territory with the Chippewa of the Mississippi and Lake Superior on October 4, 1842, as a second for Lac Courte Oreilles after Ne-na-nang-eb and Be-bo-kon-uen, his name is listed as ‘Ki-uen-ze.’

Signer of the Treaty of Fond du Lac of Lake Superior with the Chippewas of the Mississippi and Lake Superior on August 2, 1847, he signed as Chief for the Lac Courte Oreilles Band and his name is listed as ‘Kee-wan-see’.

Signer of the Treaty of La Pointe, Wisconsin, with the Chippewa Indians of Lake Superior and the Mississippi on September 30, 1854, he is listed as ‘Aw-ke-wain-ze’ or ‘The Old Man’, First Chief of the Lac Courte Oreilles Band
