Funeral services for Mrs. Emilie Utke,
79, who died late Saturday night at her home in the town of Belle Plaine,
will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 at St. John's Lutheran church.
Mrs. Utke suffered a stroke on Thursday. She had been confined to her bed
for the past 9 months as a result of a broken hip sustained last fall.
She was born June 1, 1869 in Alt Fritezen, Brandenburg, Germany,
the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Ludwig Pegelow, and came to this country with
her parents in 1893. They settled in Horicon, Wisconsin.
On April 3, 1894, she was married to Julius Utke, and after living
in Horicon for several years they came to Belle Plaine, established a
homestead, and have lived there ever since.
Besides her husband Mrs. Utke is survived by one son, David of
Shawano and three daughters: Adella, Mrs. William Beske, and Ella, Mrs.
Albert Utke, both of Shawano, and Verna, Mrs. Gustav Utke at the home
farm. There are 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. She was a
member of St. John's Lutheran church in Belle Plaine. Burial will be in
the Woodlawn Cemetery in Shawano.

Funeral services for Julius Utke, 89,
will be conducted Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 21, at St. John's Lutheran
church, Town of Belle Plaine, with the Rev. W.H. Werling officiating.
Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery at Shawano.
Friends and relatives may call at the Karth Funeral Home after
1:00 on Tuesday and at the church from noon until time of services on
Wednesday.
Mr. Utke died Sunday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs.
Gustave Utke at 704 Maiden Lane. He had been ailing for about a year. He
was the son of Mr. & Mrs. Julius Utke and was born June 9, 1869 at (Stutgardt,
Germany ?). As a child he came to Belle Plaine with his parents in 1870.
He lived there until his marriage on April 3, 1894 to Emilie Pegelow at
Horicon, after which he moved to Dodge County. In 1903 he returned to
Belle Plaine and lived there until 1952 when he came to Shawano to make
his home. Mrs. Utke died on March 26, 1949, Mr. Utke was a member of
St. John's Lutheran church, Belle Plaine.
Survivors are his children: (Adella) Mrs. Wm. Beske; David; (Ella)
Mrs. Albert Utke and (Verna) Mrs. Gustave Utke, all of Shawano. He also
leaves 7 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.

TRAIN HITS CAR; TWO ARE KILLED.
The first traffic fatality at a
railway grade crossing in the city of Juneau within the memory of the
oldest inhabitant occurred at the Center Street crossing Wednesday
afternoon shortly after 3 o'clock when the gas electric car southbound on
the Chicago & Northwestern struck the Ford coupe occupied by Mr. & Mrs.
Herman Pegelow, an aged couple residing at Minnesota Junction. Both were
killed outright.
There were no eye witnesses to the fatal accident, but the
supposition is that Mr. & Mrs. Pegelow, driving east across the railroad
tracks, were watching the movement of a freight locomotive switching in
the yards to the south and did not notice the gas electric car from the
north.
The gas electric car apparently was coming into the station at
high speed and after the crash shoved the wrecked coupe a distance of 40
feet to the Oak Street crossing before a stop was made. The aged couple
was thrown from the coupe beneath the wheels of the train and the bodies,
badly mangled, were picked up, one on each side of the track, a
considerable distance south of the Center Street crossing.
Report of the fatal accident attracted a large gathering of
townspeople at the scene, and Sheriff Edward C. Klemann was called. Later
Dr. W.J. Schmidt of Mayville, Dodge County coroner, came here and it was
decided to hold an inquest at a later date. In the meantime, A.A. Sielaff,
local mortician, took charge of the bodies in preparation for burial.
The bodies were removed to the Sielaff funeral home, W. Oak Grove
Street, where friends may call at any time this Friday afternoon. Funeral
arrangements have been made for Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock to St.
John's Lutheran Church, where services will be conducted by the Rev. F. A.
Schwertfeger of Horicon. Burial will be in the Juneau Cemetery.
Mr. Pegelow was 72 years of age and Mrs. Pegelow was 74. They
have no immediate family. The nearest of kin are a brother of Mrs.
Pegelow, Gust Falkenthal of Mayville, and a sister of Mr. Pegelow, Mrs.
Fred Utkech of Shawano, Wisconsin.

MRS. MATHILDA OESTREICH, LOCAL LADY, DEAD AFTER LONG ILLNESS.
Funeral Services Were Held For Her Wednesday Afternoon.
Culminating a lingering illness covering a period of two decades,
the last five years of which she was confined to her home, death came
mercifully to end the suffering of Mrs. Mathilda Oestreich, wife of Robert
Oestreich, care taker of the Juneau City Park, who passed away at her
residence on Fair Street, Sunday, December 11, at the early age of 53
years, 8 months and 7 days.
Funeral services at the A. A. Sielaff funeral home were held
Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, The Rev. Paul E. Feustel, pastor of the
English Lutheran church at Horicon, officiating, and burial took place in
the Juneau Cemetery, the last rites attended sorrowfully by relatives and
family friends.
Mathilda, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ludwig Peglow, was
born in Germany, March 4, 1885, and at the age of nine years came to the
United States with her parents, the family locating permanently in the
city of Horicon in 1894. Here she grew to young womanhood and on
September 3, 1904, was united in marriage with Robert Oestreich.
Following their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Oestreich made their home in
Horicon for a number of years, later moved to a farm in the town of Clyman
where they lived for 14 years, and for the past 8 years have been
residents of Juneau. To their union was born 12 children, ten of whom
died in infancy. Surviving with their bereaved father to mourn the loss
of a devoted wife and mother are two daughters, Hattie, now Mrs. Jake
Wallendale of Watertown, and Esther, now Mrs. Arnold Rupprecht of the town
of Clyman. There are three grandchildren. Mrs. Oestreich also leaves a
sister, Mrs. Julian Utke, of Shawano, Wis., and a brother, Herman Pegelow,
of Minnesota Junction.
Mrs. Oestreich's life, though comparatively short in its span of
years was not without its full measure of sorrow and care, as evidenced by
the fact that it embraced a mother's grief at the death of ten of her
twelve children, and in addition was burdened with the distress of a long
illness. Nevertheless, her home life was cheerful in the presence of her
family and intimate friends, was warm in its devotion to those near and
dear, and leaves cherished memories of her affections. The entire
community extends sympathy to the sorrowing family.

Robert Oestreich of Juneau, died Sat., Oct. 19, at Clearview, at
the age of 94.
A native of Wisconsin, Mr. Oestreich was born on June 20, 1880,
the son of Mr. & Mrs. Herman Oestreich. He was married to the former
Mathilda Pegelow. Mr. Oestreich had been a farmer and had also worked at
the John Deere plant.
He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Esther Rupprecht, of Clyman,
four grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and two sisters, Mrs. Bertha
Bennett, and Mrs. Mary Wagener, both of Horicon. His wife, ten children,
two brothers, and one sister, preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held Tues. afternoon at the Berndt Funeral
Home in Juneau, with Rev. Carl Mischke officiating. Internment was in the
Juneau Cemetery.

Mrs. Herbert (Anna) Bekse, 84, of 200 Walker St., Waupun, died
Tuesday, July 25, 1978, at Waupun Memorial Hospital.
She was born Aug. 12, 1893, in the town of Burnett, the daughter
of the late Julius and Amelia Peglow Utke. She was married to Herbert
Beske in the town of Burnett on Nov. 13, 1919.
The couple resided in the Burnett area until 1963 when they moved
to Waupun where Mrs. Beske was a member of Pella Lutheran Church.
Surviving are her husband; a daughter, Mrs. Clarence (Audrey) Paul
of Waupun; a son, Wayne of Burnett; four grandchildren; and a great
grandchild. A son, four sisters and a brother preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Friday at Pella Lutheran
Church, Waupun. Pastor David Habermas will officiate, and burial will be
in North Burnett Cemetery.
Visitation for Mrs. Beske will be from 5 to 9 P.M. Thursday at
Kohls Funeral Home, Waupun, and at the church from noon Friday until the
time of services.

Herbert E. Beske, 85, a former resident of Waupun, died Thursday,
Jan. 10, 1980, at Clearview Nursing Home, Juneau.
The funeral was at 2 P.M. Saturday at Pella Lutheran Church,
Waupun. The Rev. W.C. Stoehr officiated. Burial was in Burnett Union
Cemetery.
Mr. Beske was born July 2, 1894, in Lomira, a son of Frederick W.
and Wilhelmina (Beske) Beske. He was married to Anna Utke Nov. 13, 1919,
in Burnett.
He was an employee of National Rivet in Waupun until his
retirement in 1960. He was a member of Pella Lutheran Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Audrey (Clarence) Paul,
Waupun; one son, Wayne Beske, Burnett; four grandchildren; one great
grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his wife, an infant son, five brothers
and four sisters.

Raymond W. Utke, age 74, of 25 Ashberry
Lane, Shawano, passed away on Sunday, March 10,2002, at Heartland Health
Care Center in Shawano.
BIRTH & PARENTS:
He was born in Shawano on Nov. 27,1927,
the son of the late David and Lucie (Thimke) Utke.
EARLY YEARS & MARRIAGE:
In 1946, he began serving in the United
States Army as a staff sergeant and was stationed in Japan. He was also a
member of the Shawano American Legion Post #117.
On Dec. 10,1949, he was united in marriage
to the former Joylyn Hoppe.
INTERESTS - EMPLOYMENT:
Ray had formerly been employed as the
manager of the Shawano Red Owl Country Store. He was employed as a
purchasing agent at Phenix, retiring in 1992, and then worked as a funeral
coach driver for Karth Livery Service of Shawano for many years.
He was an avid sportsman who enjoyed
softball and bowling and was inducted into the Shawano Bowling Hall of
Fame. For many years, he served as a member of the Shawano Lions Club,
formerly as its president and in many other offices. He was a member of
the Shawano Club and the Shawano Area Chamber of Commerce. Ray was a
lifelong active and faithful member of St. James Lutheran Church in
Shawano. He served on many committees and boards including: finance,
stewardship, trustee, as well as volunteering to serve in many other
capacities.
SURVIVORS:
Survivors include: his wife, Joylyn Utke
of Shawano; son and daughter-in-law, Lee and Pamela Utke of South Haven,
Mich.; two granddaughters, Elizabeth and Alexandra Utke.
FUNERAL SERVICES AND BURIAL:
Memorial services will be held on
Wednesday, March 13, at 11 a.m. at Schroeder-Mickelson Funeral Service of
Shawano with Pastor William Otte officiating. Friends may gather after
9:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home until the time of services.
Memorial funds for St. James Lutheran
Church or the Shawano County Humane Society have been established in his
memory.

Rosendale, passed away Thursday evening, Nov. 1, 2001, at Parkview Care
Center in Ripon.
BIRTH & PARENTS:
She was born Aug. 12,1912, in the Town of
Metomen, the daughter of Herman and Rosie (Nest) Borchardt.
EARLY YEARS & MARRIAGE:
Lorine graduated from Rosendale High School.
She later married Alien Elmer Ballard on Oct. 21,1931. He passed away on
Jan. 28, 1981.
INTERESTS - EMPLOYMENT:
Mrs. Ballard was a member of the United
Church of Christ, Rosendale. She was retired from cooking at Family Bar
for 23 years.
SURVIVORS;
Survivors include: one son, Charles (Ann)
Ballard of Erie, Colo.; two daughters, Mrs. Dolores Kaliebe of Shawano,
Mrs. Carol (Keith) Kottke of Oakfield; four grandchildren, Barry Kaliebe
of Green Bay, Betty Kaliebe (Rick Utke) of Shawano, Todd Ballard (Alicia)
of Aurora, Colo., Mark Kottke (Jackie) of Oakfield; five
great-grandchildren, Allen, Sydney, Marissa, Joshua, Taylor; two
sisters-in-law; one aunt; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents,
her husband, Alien in 1981, one daughter, five grandchildren, one
great-grandchild, and one son-in-law, Alton Kaliebe.
FUNERAL SERVICES AND BURIAL:
Funeral services for Lorine E. Ballard will
be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 6, at the United Church of Christ,
Rosendale, with Pastor Laura Hawkins officiating. Visitation will be from
4 until 7 P.M. on Monday, Nov. 5, at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home,
Ripon, and again on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at
the church. Interment will be in Rosendale Cemetery.
