Social Advantages -- Churches and Schools
SOCIETIES—There are several civic societies in the county.  Those in Mattoon occupy a fine hall built especially for the purpose, where meetings are held regularly.

CHURCHES—Churches of several denominations have been built and are well attended, the community comparing favorably for intelligence, sociability, and morality with any similar American settlement.

SCHOOLS.—The school laws of Wisconsin require every community to build and maintain a suitable school house and to employ teachers whose ability to impart a good education is passed on by State authority. Every part of our land therefore is accessible to a well-equippsd school. If you select land near the town of Mattoon, your children will have the advantages of the town school, with its seven rooms, competent principal and graded courses of study. In order that the educational advantages might be the best, we contributed several thousand dollars ourselves to the erection of the building and the establishment of the system.

Doctor says there is no Healthier Place
For the health seeker there is no better climate than Sliawano County, Wisconsin. Our people are unusually free from catarrhal troubles and diseases dependent upon such conditions, so frequently found among residents farther south and east.

With an abundance of pure water, spring fed streams, rich soil, and winter winds tempered by the surrounding forests, makes Mattoon and vicinity an ideal home and location for the Home Seeker.

Made Money Every Year
1 have lived near the village of Mattoon for 17 years, and have been engaged in farming and stock raising and have made money every year, both from general farming and from the cattle business. We have plenty of good water, in springs and wells from ten to twenty feet deep, and I consider this one of the best farming and cattle raising sections in the state of Wisconsin.
