VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

YOU can help Shawano Co.'s WIGenWeb pages be one of the best around!

I don't live in Shawano County myself. I volunteered to take over and maintain this page from Marsha because some of my husband's ancestors(MALUEG, MARQUARDT and TRIEGLAFF) are from Shawano. I have never even been to Wisconsin let alone Shawano. But if you're looking at this page, YOU may have the interest or information. Help me help YOU! Genealogy is a team effort, people sharing information so we all reach our goal! You give me the information, I'll get it up here!

Here are the areas I can think of right now:

Look-ups: Look-up volunteers are always needed. If you have, or have access to, a Shawano County Family History book, a volume of any aspect of Shawano County history, indexes of censuses, births, deaths, or marriages, and are willing to take requests for information from those records, you can be a GREAT help! Email me & I'll add you to the Look-ups page.

Cemeteries: I'd like to include, if possible, a person who has information regarding each cemetery listed, (the caretaker or someone who has done research on that location) or who would be willing to "walk" that cemetery in response to questions. Eventually, I want to have an index up for each cemetery listed. Interested? Email me & as I get information in, I'll add it to the page.

Families of Shawano County: If you've got your Shawano County-related genealogy or biography up on a Web page, let me know the URL and I'll create a page with links to it. Who knows what "lost" family members you may find!

USGenWeb has 3 projects currently running that we need help with. They are:

Census: USGenWeb would like to get indexes to censuses listed on the Internet. This is public information, and we'd like to make it available to all. If you would like to donate an index that you've already done, are available for typing, or can index the census from the microfilm, let Tina Vickery, the WIGenWeb Coordinator know! Any help is gratefully accepted!

Cemeteries: We'd like to get ALL cemeteries in the US indexed and up on the 'Net! This is an ambitious goal, but with vandalism and weathering, much of this information is being destroyed! If you can help in any capacity, even for cemeteries outside of Shawano County, e-mail me, or Tina Vickery. We'll put you in contact with the right person!

Civil War: Another project is to get Civil War Rosters from all counties up on the 'Net. The goal is to get this done by Memorial Day. Shawano County is sadly lacking in this area, mostly 'cuz I don't even know where to get the information! If you have this information, or can help me find it, e-mail me. If you have rosters or company histories that you'd like to donate, send 'em in! I'll get them up on our site!

A lot of this work has been done already by local historical or genealogical societies. We don't want to step on toes, or infringe on copyrights. Encourage your Society to donate a roster, census or cemetery listing to USGenWeb! Full credit will be given to the Society, and copyright notices are posted on each donation, as applicable.
