TOWN OF HERMAN - March
5th, 1878. - Last Friday, a gay time was had in the town of Pella, the
occasion being the marriage of Mr. HERMAN ZAHN and Miss THERESA
BRAUN. The wedding took place at the bride's home, Mr. Johan Braun's,
an old resident of the town. The bride was his youngest daughter, who was
about three years old when she came to reside in Pella. Mr. Zahn is the
youngest son of Mr. Carl Zahn, who first lived in the town of Belle Plaine,
but for the last fifteen years, has been a resident and worthy farmer of
the town of Pella. The groom, who is good-hearted, and a strong and healthy
youth, also owns a farm in the same town. The marriage ceremony was solemnized
by Rev. G. Earth, of the Lutheran congregation, of which they are all members.
The wedding was largely attended by the relatives and friends of the youthful
couple, whose teams fairly blockaded the premises. About 2:00 p.m. the
large company partook of a delicious wedding dinner, comprising all the
delicacies which female ingenuity could devise for the occasion. After
the dinner, the company were entertained by a lecture from Rev. Mr. Theme,
of the Reformation, who also read a poem, showing how Farmer John, a drunkard
and a wicked man became a Christian, and how he persuaded all of his friends
to abandon intoxicating drinks and become Christians. A few German songs
filled up the time so pleasantly that the afternoon was gone before we
knew it and evening brought out some other music to which young and old
kept time in the merry waltz. Among the guests which the dance brought
out from their imposed duties as "general manager" and "superintendent
of the victuating department," were our esteemed friends C. R. Klebesadel
and lady, who won the friendship and admiration of all present by their
pleasant ways and good management. Mrs. Klebesadel is a sister of the bride,
and, like all older sisters at a wedding, took great pride in having the
feast faultless in variety and abundance. H. Tonne, clerk for Upham &
Russell, was also a guest, and contributed much to the enjoyment of the
company by his humor and entertaining qualities. The Germans all like Tonne,
because he is ever the same sociable and pleasant fellow. The bride and
groom were elegantly dressed, and many handsome presents accompanied the
compliments and good wishes showered upon them by relatives and friends.
They left for their new quarters last Monday, where they may live long
and happily are the sincere wish of the writer.

DOUBLE BLESSEDNESS.
Last Friday there occurred in Hartland one of the grandest weddings ever
held in this county. The two daughters of Mr. Genzke were the same day
to be married to young men of that town, and great were the preparations
for the grand "hoch geitsfeirer" of these happy couples. The wedding hour
was set for ten o'clock, but, owing to the absence of the minister who
was to unite them, the Rev. Mr. Koontz, of Belle Plaine, the ceremony wasn't
performed until afternoon. Long before the appointed hour however, parties
began to gather from all the neighboring towns, as well as from the more
immediate circle of acquaintance, and by twelve o'clock the house and grounds
were crowded. At two o'clock the first couple, FRED JENSEN and AUGUSTA
GENZKE, were married at the house by Rev. J.H.H. Bierbaum, whose services
were solicited when it was found that Mr. Koontz would not be there. Soon
after this the wedding party moved to the Methodist church, where MARTIN
ZERNICKE and LOUISA GENZKE were also married by Mr. Bierbaum.
Returning to the house, the wedding festivities were begun, and were kept
up without thought of stopping until the next morning. The tables groaned
with good things, and every face wore a smile. The rooms were toward evening
cleared, the music started up, and the dance commenced, to end only with
the appearance of daylight, when the wearied dancers started homeward,
wishing to the young people a long life and a happy one.

the secret, it was a great mystery that he, of all others, should be tardy.
Last Friday, however, explained the mystery. In the evening of that
day he was married to Miss ELMA LOUD at the residence of the bride's
father, about nine miles southwest of Oshkosh, by Rev. Mr. Vesey. The sisters
of the bride, Misses Jennie and Annie Loud, acted as bridesmaids, and Messrs.
Fred Morgan and Henry Ross as Groomsmen. After the ceremony, the happy
pair received the congratulations and good wishes of their host of friends.
A handsome display of costly and beautiful presents evinced the sincerity
of the good will of the party. The newly-married couple moved the next
day into their house on Church street which Mr. Gilkey has lately purchased
and fitted up for his residence. If not too much entranced with the delights
of the honeymoon, George may be expected sometime next week, when his host
of friends here may have an opportunity of joining in the congratulations
and good wishes of his friends everywhere.
HUME-SCOTT. On Wednesday evening the residence of Hon.
T. E. Craine, on Elm street, was the scene of a brilliant gathering, being
the occasion of the marriage of JOHN W. HUME to Miss NETTIE A.
SCOTT, daughter of Mrs. Craine. The ceremony took place at seven o'clock,
there being present the relatives and a few friends of the bride and groom.
Rev. Kerr C. Anderson, of the Congregational church, officiated. Miss Mary
Washburn was the bridesmaid, and Mr. Hanson of the firm of Cottrill &
Hanson, lawyers of Milwaukee, was the groomsman. G. V. Croft and B. J.
Musser were the ushers, shortly after the ceremony, invited guests in the
number of several hundred began to arrive, and congratulations were in
order. During the reception refreshments were served under the supervision
of that well-known caterer, E. E. Finnery, which was a sufficient guarantee
that there was plenty for all, and of a quality that would cause the mouth
of an epicure to fairly water, and were partaken of with a relish. The
house was brilliantly lighted and decorated, the decoration being mainly
furnished and placed in position by the bride's young lady friends in this
vicinity, and everything passed off in the most pleasant manner, the party
separating about 11 o'clock.-Oshkosh Times.

Sept. 19th, by Justice Ed. Sommers, Mr. CHARLES FREDRICKSEN
and Miss MATILDA FREDRICKSEN, all of Green Valley. The bride and
groom are hard-working Swedes of recent importation, and the fact that
they did not know much of anything beyond their own happiness in getting
married, exposed them to the humor of the Court House junta who are always
ready for a little fun. The J.P. appointed Treasurer Alex. Peterson
"bridesmaid" and Clerk H.M. Loomer "bridegroom", while Miss Cora Porter
and Miss Sarah Loan, school-marms present, gallantly supported the blushing
bridesmaid. The ceremony concluded, the J.P. ordered the bride to kiss
the bridesmaid and bridegroom, and the way Matilda went for those two official
jokers they will remember for many a day. Alex, is an old sailor and is
used to all sorts of rigs, but he says it was the loudest "smack" he ever
encountered, and the girls went into hysterics.

HYMENEAL. Without
question the greatest social event Shawano has ever witnessed was the marriage
of Miss FLORENCE EMMA McCORD to Mr. WILLIAM CHARLES GILBERT,
of Wausau. The ceremony took place at the residence of the bride's mother
in this city on Wednesday at 12:00 and the services were rendered by Rev.
J.M. Wolverton of the M. E. church in presence of relatives and immediate
friends. The bride is the eldest daughter of Hon. M. H. McCord, of Merrill,
and the association of the names of the contracting parties brings forth
congratulations from all over the state. Those witnessing the services
were Mr. and Mrs. Bruno, Miss Helen Bruno and Mr. Charles Gilbert, of Wausau,
relatives of the groom; Mr. Charles McCord, brother of the bride, Dr. and
Mrs. Burger, and Mr. M. Wiley, of Merrill; Mr. & Mrs. H. Hayter, Mr.
Harry Hayter, Mr. & Mrs. D. E. Wescott, Mr. & Mrs. H. J. Sprague,
Dr & Mrs. C.E. Munn, Mr. & Mrs. W.H. Murdock, Dr. & Mrs. H.R.
McComb, Mrs. N.E. Wright, Mr. & Mrs. E.L. Farnsworth, the Misses Nellie
Merrick and Mary Crowley, Messrs. G.C. Dickinson, Dr. Cantwell, C.C. Naber,
W. W. McQueen, and James George, of this city. A banquet followed congratulations,
which was a specimen of elaboration hardly to be expected in a metropolis.
The table bore the elegance of tropical production in fruits and flowers,
which were beautifully arranged, developing a rare harmony of color and
symmetry. The presents were many and costly, and portray in a limited manner
the high esteem in which the bride and groom are held by their friends.
Congratulatory telegrams received from friends who were unable to be present.
At 3:00 the new couple, with Mr. & Mrs. Bruno, left in carriages for
Clintonville, there to take the evening train for Wausau, their home, where
a banquet was held in their honor. Mr. Gilbert is a book keeper in the
Marathon Co. Bank, and while we must congratulate him we are compelled
to recognize the loss of Miss McCord in our social and literary world.

of Mr. THOMAS DARROW and Miss ROSA CONDOR, both of this city,
took place last Saturday morning, the ceremony being performed at the Catholic
church, in the presence of relatives and friends. The wedding was quite
an event for many of the old people of the city and vicinity, who have
known the contracting parties from childhood up, and a merry time they
had at the house of Mr. & Mrs. Michael Phalen over the wedding dinner,
to which they were all invited. Tom. had all he could do handing out cigars
to his numerous friends and acquaintances that day, and directing them
where to get more. The worthy young couple received many presents. A large
circle of friends wish them all the joy and happiness of a long and prosperous
married life. They will make Shawano their home, Mr. Darrow intending in
the spring to put his dwelling in the 3rd ward in shape for occupancy.

on Friday, Nov. 18th, at 10:00 A.M., in the brick church, Rev. J. G. Schwan

both of Pella. After the hymeneal services and sermon, the guests assembled
at the house of the bride's parents, where the tables were found all spread
with a most excellent dinner. The crowd was doubtless the largest that
ever assembled at a wedding party in Shawano county, and a grand time was
enjoyed by old and young. The presents were numerous, and mostly very costly
ones. In the evening the party resolved itself into a dance, the
Cox & Conklin Bros., string band, of Navarino, furnishing the music
for the occasion. Mr. Hoffmann is one of the wealthiest and most industrious
young farmers of this portion of the county, and in his lovely bride he
has secured a life partner who will not fail to second his efforts to make
the farmer's home prosperous and happy. Their numerous friends wish the
bright young couple a long and pleasant journey through life.

mind and heart and general worthiness of the excellent young lady he has
won as a life partner. His bride, Miss Bowley, is a daughter of ———Bowley,

Although but a resident of this city for a few short months, she has made
many friends and is highly esteemed by all who know her. After the ceremony
and attendant congratulations, an elegant repast was served and a general
jollification indulged in until the afternoon train, when Mr. & Mrs.
