I recently came
across this delightful and well-documented photo -- naturally, a
school teacher would have owned it! This is Miss Mabel Koske's
1935 School picture for Grades
1-4 in the Pulcifer School. Miss Koske (1916 - 2002, daughter
of Paul and Marie Krause-
Koske) was from the Green Valley area and most of the students are
from the same area as well. Miss Koske noted "I think this was
taken the first week of my teaching career."
On the back of the photograph, Miss
Koske has handwritten the names of the students that correspond to
the numbers that she penned on the photo. There are only a few
names missing, so if you know them, please let me know and we'll
complete the class list.
A little bit about the Pulcifer
School -- The Pulcifer Grade School was a two-story building with
first through fourth grade downstairs and fifth through eighth grade
upstairs. Albert Zenk built this school in 1905 at a cost of
$1700. It closed in 1966, when it consolidated with the
Gillett schools. The building has been torn down.
And, if you have any school
class or confirmation photos, identified or not, we'd love to post
them to the site for all to enjoy. Just click on the photo
below for the LARGE original picture... very detailed -- I left it
as large as possible!
