Manitowish Waters New Official Name for Spider LakeThe name of the town of Spider lake, Vilas county has been officially changed to Manitowish Waters, according to announcement by the Manitowish Waters Chamber of Commerce. The annoucement reads: "This resolution is pursuant to Section 59.08 (3) of the Wisconsin statutes and signed by Louis Schroeder, town chairman, and members of the county board. "The county clerk has forwarded a copy to the Secretary of State." "At last we will be able to advertise our own town," states Roy J.Jorgensen, president of the Manitowish Waters Chamber of Commerce, commenting on the change of name. "Heretofore, it was necessary to use the name of Manitowish, which is located Iron county, and not in Vilas county, of which we are a part. No doubt we shall have our own post office within the near future." "The Chamber of Commerce has always favored this change. We believe it is one of the best moves ever accomplished for the benefit of our community." Source: Lakeland Times, Minocqua Wisc. December 22, 1939 |
