From the Physician's Report
WAUPACA COUNTY ASYLUM FOR CHRONIC INSANE
Transcribed by Paula Vaughan June 2003
The Honorable Board of Trustees of Waupaca County Insane Asylum
I herewith submit my report for the year ending June 30th,
1916.
It is with unalloyed pleasure that I state the affairs in the medical
surgical and sanitary department have moved in an entirely satisfactory
manner. There have been no epidemics and only a moderate amount of
sickness. Surgery has been conspicuous for its absence and accidents have
been but few, slight and unavoidable. The general sanitary condition of
the Institution was never in better condition now the patients as a whole
more tranquil.
The Superintendent and Matron have been very attentive to their duties and
have given every consideration to the general comfort and welfare of the
inmates as well as to various forms of amusement and diversions to
brighten and cheer the lives of the unfortunate individuals whose highest
hopes are but dime and waning stars.
The mortality list for the year is as follows:

Several have been paroled and while still under supervision, the results
have been very satisfactory. Let us hope that a greater number may be in a
condition during the next year to merit this opportunity.
Owing to the reoccurrence of small pox in the vicinity it was thought
advisable to practice general vaccination which was accordingly done
during the last days of June. General results very successful.
I am gratified with the steps that have been taken to insure adequate fire
protection. I believe the system selected to have been a wise choice.
By a proper training of employees in fire drill the protection will be as
nearly perfect as it can be made.
In closing I wish to extend thanks for the valuable co-operation with
which I have been favored in carrying out measure designed to maintain and
improve the general health and well being of the patients.
Respectfully submitted,
E. H. JONES, Physician __________________________
