Physician’s Report Transcribed by
Jean Spiegelberg July 2004 I hereby transmit my report for the year ending June 30, 1920. It is with pleasure I inform your honorable body that the past year has been one free of epidemics or other untoward conditions among the patients and inmates of the asylum. The year has passed with very little sickness and fewer surgical cases than usual. The management, as in former years, has every been very alert in looking after the physical, mental, and moral welfare of the patients than is ordinarily seen in institutions of this kind. The food has been abundant, well prepared, and adapted to the wants of the individuals. The clothing has been warm and comfortable; the patients have been kept clean and as far as possible, occupied in some congenial form of employment which accounts in a small measure for the contentment which has been manifest. The beds have been kept clean, comfortable, and sanitary; the rooms have been well heated and ventilated and when weather has permitted, the patients have been out of doors a goodly portion of the time. The outside premises have been as well looked after from the sanitary viewpoint as the inside. Drainage, sewerage and general cleanliness have characterized the entire place. The patients have been kindly and considerately treated while every effort is put forth to make their stay as homelike as possible and mitigate in every conceivable way the cup of bitterness which is unfortunately theirs to endure. The mortality list for the year is as follows:
In closing I wish to thank your honorable Board for the appreciation, co-operation, and courtesy you have always manifested and assume you it has been an inspiration to those in whose care and custody these unfortunate individuals have been placed.
