Henry Behrent, age 91 a former banker in Big Falls, died Monday at Iola Hospital after a brief illness. [June 1976]  He has been in an Iola nursing home for the past seven years.

Mr Behrent was the director and president of the former Big Falls State Bank.  He lived most of his life in the town of Wyoming, Waupaca County, and held various town offices, including clerk and chairman.  He was also on the old West Hill school board and had been a director for the Central Wisconsin Electrical Cooperative.

Born March 14, 1885 in Antigo, he was the son of Mr and Mrs William Behrent. Survivors include nieces and nephews.  Three sisters and five brothers preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held at 2pm Friday at St Peter=s Lutheran Church, Big Falls.  The Rev Leonard A Domke will officiate.  Burial will be in Big Falls Cemetery.

Friends may call after 3pm Thursday at the Voie Funeral Home, Iola.

Adeline Hedke, age 76 of Big Falls died Friday evening, January 18, [1974], at St Michael=s Hospital, Stevens Point.

A life-long resident of Big Falls, she was born there August 8, 1903 and was married October 24, 1923, in the town of Dupont to Arnold Hedtke, who survives.  For many years the couple operated several different taverns in Big Falls.  She was a member of the Ladies Aid of St Peter=s Lutheran Church and the VFW auxiliary, Big Falls.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by three daughters, Mrs Kenneth Schertz of Madison; Mrs Doris Berna of Big Falls; and Adeline Hedtke of Waupaca; ; two sons, Arnold, Jr of route 1, Iola; and Fred of Niantic, CT; four sisters, Mrs Dorothea Mundt of Milwaukee, Mrs Viola Lund of Mountain, WI, Mrs Lillian Toebaas of Evanston, IL, and Mrs Geneva Adams of Big Falls; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted at 2pm, Tuesday afternoon, January 22, at St Peter=s Lutheran Church, with the Rev Leonard Domke, pastor, officiating.

Burial was in Big Falls Cemetery. Heuer-Sievers and Stensrud Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs Frank Rystrom, age 60 of Merrill, died Friday morning April 21, [1972], after being in ill health for the past 20 years.

The former Florence Arndt, daughter of Mr and Mrs A G Arndt, who operated the Big Falls store for many years, spent a good share of her life in Big Falls, meeting her husband Frank when he came to Big Falls to operate the barbershop.    They were married in the Methodist Church and after a few years, moved to Merrill, where they operated a store.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, Frank Rystrom of Merrill, are two sons; James of Leewood, KS, Danny of Merrill; grandchildren; two brothers, Junie of Kingston and Frankie of Milwaukee; four sisters, Mrs Gust Eland of Waupaca, Mrs Hutchinson of Springfield, IL; Mrs Amil Kaminsky of Madison and Mrs Paul Grunwald of Waupaca.

Services were held at Christ Methodist Church at 10 Monday morning at Merrill with buria in the Big Falls cemetery.

Ralph R Petersen, age 67, Route 1, Marion, died at his home unexpectedly on Saturday, March 3, [1973].

Petersen was born January 28, 1906, the son of the late Chris and Sanne (nee Hansen) in the town of St Lawrence, Waupaca County.  He was a life-long resident of Waupaca County.  He farmed and was an electrician for many years and was employed at the Waupaca County Hospital for 11 years until retirement last year.

Survivors include one brother, Herman Petersen, Rt 1, of Marion; one sister (Hazel) Mrs Harvey Zilz, Route 1, Iola.  One sister preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 6, at Heuer-Sievers and Stenerud Funeral Home of Marion.  Rev Myron C Christensen officiated and the burial will be in the Big Falls Cemetery in the spring.

Pallbearers were Kenneth and Stanley Carlson, William Liebert, Ervin Krohn, Robert Strum, and Ed Rohde.

Paul C Krause
Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 20, 1973, at the Heuer-Sievers and Stensrud Funeral Home in Marion for Paul C Krause, 67, Iola, who died November 16 at Wood, WI.  The Rev Myron Christensen officiated with burial in Big Falls Cemetery.  Members of the VFW served as pallbearers.

Mr Krause was born August 22, 1906, in Big Falls, son of the late Mr and Mrs Henry Krause.  He was a World War II veteran.

Survivors include two brothers, Gust Krause of Iola and Ben Krause of Big Falls; nieces and nephews.

Mrs Glenn Myers, age 71, Route 2, Tigerton, died Monday, November 20, 1972, at the Tigerton Hospital after a short illness.

Funeral services were held at 10am Saturday, November 25, at the Voie Funeral Home, Iola.  Dr Kent Richmond officiated.  Burial was in Big Falls Cemetery.

The former Dorothy Leith was born March 6, 1901, in Iowa, a daughter of Mr and Mrs William Leith.  When was a child, her family moved to South Dakota.

She married Glenn E Myers in SD on March 23, 1920.  The couple then moved to Wisconsin in 1927 and lived in Waupaca, before moving to Tigerton.

Mrs Myers is survived by her mother, Mrs Minnie Leith of South Dakota; four sisters, Mrs John (Ruby) O=Driscoll of Milwaukee, Mrs Chester (Lucille) Clawson of Mitchell, SD, Mrs Stewart (Darlene) Bradbury of Madison, SD,and Mrs Wilbert (Arlene) Schultz of Lennox, SD; three brothers, Robert Howard, SD, Richard of Roswell, SD, and Russell of Oregon.

She was preceded in death by her husband and father.

Peter Hock funeral services for Peter Hock, age 67, retired tavern operator, were held Monday at 1:30pm at the Voie Funeral Home, Iola.  He was pronounced dead at the Iola Hospital Thursday Night, November 23, 1972, and was buried in Big Falls Cemetery November 27.

He was born October 17, 1905, in Milwaukee, and was the son of Mr and Mrs Henry Hock.

He married Genevieve Buzek in Milwaukee on February 28, 192?.  The Hocks have lived on route 2, Iola for 21 years.

Mrs hock served with the Army Air Force 347th Base Unit from June 1942 to September, 1945.  He was a member of Sheveland-Taylor Post 14 of the American Legion.

He is survived by his wife and two brothers, Eli and Henry, both of Milwaukee

Mrs Fred Jahsman of Big Falls passed away suddenly at her home, following a stroke, at 6 o'clock  Thursday morning, May 4 [1933].

Lydia Jahsman was 39 years old.  She was born in Dupont on April 8, 1894.  She was the daughter of Mr and Mrs Herman Zietlow of that town and had lived at Big Falls since her marriage to Fred Jahsman October 29, 1913.

She is survived by four children, Dorothy, Mildred, Genevieve and Francis; her husband; six brothers, Charles Zietlow of the town of Wyoming, Herman of Wyoming, and four sisters, Bertha (Mrs Henry Fenner) of Wausau, (Elizabeth) Mrs Rob Gruel of Big Falls, Nora Zeitlow of Wyoming and (Ella) Mrs Rud Witt of Wyoming.

Funeral services were held at the Lutheran Church at Big Falls on Monday afternoon, Rev W Lang officiating. [buried in Big Falls Cemetery]

Rudolph Witt
Funeral services were recently conducted at St Peter Lutheran Church for Rudolph Witt, a former resident of Big Falls Monday afternoon with Rev Leonard Domke officiating.

Burial was in Big Falls cemetery.

Witt was a resident of Bethany Home for the past few years.

Marie Schmidt
Funeral services for Mrs. Marie Schmidt, 90, of Big Falls, who died Sunday, June 17, 1956, at the Tigerton Hospital, were held Wednesday afternoon from St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Big Falls, the Rev. Carl Stubenvoll officiating.  Internment was in the Big Falls Cemetery.  Mrs. Schmidt was born November 22, 1865 in Poland.  She married the late William Schmidt in Poland September 19, 1885.  The couple came to the United States and to Big Falls in 1892.  Mrs. Schmidt was a charter member of the Ladies’ Aid of St. Peter’s church.  Survivors include three sons: Herman of Oak Park, Illinois, Rudolph of Marion, and Louie of Big Falls; four daughters: Lydia, Mrs. Ernest Jahsman of Symco, Marie, Mrs. Emil Winter of Big Falls, Emma, Mrs. Alfred Schmidt of Big Falls, and Lillie, Mrs. Elmer Erickson of Chicago; twenty-two grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.  Schroeder Funeral Home of Marion was in charge of arrangements.

Theodore Much
Theodore G. Much, of Big Falls, passed away at an Appleton hospital last Friday Feb. 28 [1913] to which place he was taken the day before, suffering from a complication of diseases. Deceased was 29 years of age and well known in this vicinity. He leaves his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ferd. Much of Union Twp., a wife and two small children, seven brothers and three sisters.

Phyllis Much
Phyllis Rae Much, age 62, of Marion passed away Monday, December 4, 2006, at her home.  She was born October 4, 1944, in Iola, daughter of the late Frederick and Bernice (Quimby) Pagel.  She worked at A. Sturm & Sons several years after graduating from high school.  On August 6, 1966, she married Vernon Much at Zion Lutheran Church in Manawa. Since her marriage, she and her husband have farmed in the Town of Union, Waupaca County.  She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Big Falls, WI. Phyllis enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling and playing cards.  She is survived by her husband, Vernon; a son, Victor D. (Sheila) Much, Ogdensburg; a granddaughter, Kayla Kay Much; two brothers: Ron (Barb) Pagel, Waupaca; Gary (Elvera) Pagel, Wittenberg; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  The funeral service for Phyllis will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, December 7, 2006, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Big Falls, with Rev. Janice M. Kuder officiating. Burial will be in Big Falls Cemetery.  The Cline-Hanson-Dahlke Funeral Home in Manawa, is assisting the family with arrangements.
