Section 26, town of Scandinavia, Waupaca County, Wisconsin…located just off state highway 49 at the south branch of the Little Wolf River, one and one half miles south of Scandinavia. There was to have been a church built here, but instead it was built north of Scandinavia. This property first belonged to Ytterbo and later Hellstad. The building now is being used, has been added onto, but was the old Hellstad school house. We were told that there were burials under the school house as well as in the school yard. There are suppose to be at least eleven burials here. The first buried in Scandinavia in 1853 was Hustru of Ole Tobiason or Ole Litternmand, also a Jacob Jacobson Nygaard. The facts about this destroyed cemetery can be found in Thor Helgeson’s book, written entirely in Norwegian "Fra Indianernes Lande" (much of what was translated by Malcomb Rosholt in "From the Indianland" _____________________________ Return to cemetery page Return to Homepage Questions, suggestions or additions, please email me.
