HISTORY OF GREENLEAF CEMETERY
Greenleaf Cemetery
originated in Shawano and Waupaca Counties, Village of Marion, WI.
Today Greenleaf Cemetery consists of eight additions or sections and
is approximately 7-1/2 acres in size. The original plat was
surveyed on June 17, 1891 and has 1056 grave sites.
The
oldest date of death known for the cemetery was from a monument in
this section dated 1878.
The Ramsdell Addition was
surveyed August 31, 1891. This addition has 504 grave sites.
The
Fuchs Addition, Block I, was surveyed November 4, 1897. This
section contains 436 grave sites. The Fuchs Addition, Block
II, was surveyed November 4, 1897. This section contains 748
grave sites. The Fuchs Addition, Blocks I & II, were the third
and fourth additions to Greenleaf Cemetery.
The Pockat Addition was
surveyed on May 26, 1923 and contains 426 grave sites.
The Warnick Addition was
surveyed on October 24, 1923 and contains 192 grave sites, being the
smallest addition.
Certificate
of Organization of Greenleaf Cemetery Association
An organizational meeting
to form an association was held on July 10, 1926. Clara Rasey
chaired the meeting. Emma Ramsdell was secretary. The first annual
meeting of the Greenleaf Cemetery Association was held March 31,
1927. On March 18, 1948, the Association purchased property from
the Marion Airport in the city of Marion. This is known today as
the New Addition East and has 286 grave sites. This was the seventh
addition to Greenleaf Cemetery. On December 13, 1989 the
Association purchased land from the Earl Mielke farm and today is
known as the Mapleleaf Addition. This addition has 452 plotted
grave sites. A portion of this addition is unplotted at this time.
