Harry
Bungert
Harry Bungert, 80, West Allis, an Ellis area native, died at the home of
his brother, Michael, on Thursday, May 9, 2013, while under the care of
Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice of Wausau.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, May 20, at the Mary Queen of
Heaven Church in Milwaukee. Interment was Wednesday, May 22, at the
Central Wisconsin Veterans Cemetery in King.
Visitation was at the church Monday, May 20.
Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society or to the disabled
veterans.
Mr. Bungert was born Aug. 3, 1932, a son of the late Joseph and Pauline
Bungert. He was raised in the Ellis area in Portage County.
He joined the United States Army in 1952.
After his discharge he settled in the Milwaukee area. He was a retired
employee of General Electric.
Survivors include three brothers, Peter (Barb), Sussex, Bob, Bevent, and
Michael (Shirley), Weston; one sister, Josephine Wanta, Bevent; many
nieces; and many nephews.
He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Chester, Donald and
Edward; and two sisters, Helen Schwartz and Marie Flatoff.

John A. Wimme
John A. Wimme, 88, King, a Nelsonville native and longtime Nelsonville
postmaster, died Tuesday, June 16, 2009, in Olson Hall at the Wisconsin
Veterans Home in King, where he was a resident.
A private family memorial service will be held at the Main Chapel at
Wisconsin Veterans Home in King, with Chaplain Wayne Schwanke
officiating. Interment of cremains will be in the Central Wisconsin
Veterans Memorial Cemetery in King.
Holly Funeral Home in Waupaca assisted the family with arrangements.

Mr. Wimme was born March 9, 1921, in Nelsonville, a son of the late
Henry and Eva (Diver) Wimme.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He was married to Cleo Smith on Sept. 24, 1949, in Phillips.
He was a member of Nelsonville Lutheran Church.
He was the postmaster in Nelsonville for more than 30 years.
He was a member of the American Legion Post in Amherst.
Survivors include his wife, Amherst; two daughters, Judy (Tony)
Canales, Pardeeville, and Joan Wimme, Lake Nebagamon; one son, Lynn
(Rocky), Cass Lake, Minn.; one sister, Bernice Lubecki, Richfield; four
grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.

Wimme
Cleo B. Wimme, 90, Lake Nebagamon, a former Nelsonville resident, died
Saturday, March 2, 2013 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth, Minn.
Private services will be held at Holly Funeral Home in Waupaca, with
Chaplain Wayne Schwanke officiating. Burial will be in the Central
Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in King.
Memorials can be made to the Friends of Fred Smith, Normal Building,
Room 217, 104 South Eyder Ave., Phillips, WI 54555.

Mrs. Wimme was born Aug. 26, 1922, in Phillips, a daughter of the late
Fred and Alta B. (May) Smith.
She was married to John A. Wimme on Sept. 24, 1949, in Phillips. He died
June 16, 2009.
She had been employed at Allis-Chalmers in Milwaukee and had been a
member of Nelsonville Lutheran Church in Nelsonville.
Survivors include two daughters, Judy (Tony) Canales,
Pardeeville, and Joan Wimme, Lake Nebagamon; one son, Lynn (Rocky), Cass
Lake, Minn.; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by four sisters and one brother.

Raymond 'Bud' J. O'Keefe
Raymond "Bud" J. O'Keefe, 73, King, formerly of Almond and Iola, died
Friday, Jan. 4, 2002, at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Holly Funeral Home in Waupaca,
with the Rev. Steve Hulke officiating. Interment will be in the
Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in King.
Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home in
Waupaca.
Mr. O'Keefe was born Feb. 2, 1928, in Almond, a son of the late Raymond
and Opal (Bennett) O'Keefe.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He worked as a technician for Midwest Breeders for 15 years and later
worked as a foreman for Faldet Farms in Iola.
Survivors include four daughters, Jeanne O'Keefe, Iola, Suzan O'Keefe
and Mary (Robert) Berard, both of Stevens Point, and Patty (Tom) Barden,
Almond; two sisters, Kathryn (Gerald) Lea, Amherst, and Jean Boelter,
Almond; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by one son, Michael; two brothers, Neal
and Dale; and two sisters, Myrna Holtz and Helen Olkiewicz.

Marie
Ann Young
Marie Ann Young, 95, formerly of Stevens Point, died Monday, April 22,
2002, at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King, where she had been a
resident for 12 years.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, May 3, at the Wisconsin
Veterans Home in King, with Chaplain Tracy Hamelink officiating. Burial
will be at the Wisconsin Veterans Cemetery in King.
Memorials may be made to the Foster Grandparent Program and the
Salvation Army.
Mrs. Young was born May 11, 1906, in Pilzen, Czech Republic, a daughter
of the late Jacob and Katerine (Zenisek) Sobehrad. She moved with her
family in 1912 to the United States, settling in Cicero, Ill. She
attended Chicago area schools.
She was married to Fernald Young on June 8, 1935, in Waukegan, Ill. He
died May 1, 1992.
They moved to Stevens Point in 1939. After his service in World War II,
they went into the grocery business, running a store at Grand Marsh and
later the Blaine Store. They moved to Arkansas in 1971 and returned to
Stevens Point in 1978.
Mrs. Young worked at the Western Electric Co. in Cicero, Ill., and later
at the Portage County Home.
She was a foster grandparent for 10 years, a recycling program
volunteer, a Special Olympics volunteer for nine years and a YMCA
exercise program volunteer at the Lincoln Center. She served as a
delegate to the state Coalition on Aging Convention in Stevens Point in
1989.
Survivors include two daughters, Donna Furuta, San Jose, Calif., and
Karen (Peter) Leahy, Stevens Point; six grandchildren; and eight
great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Jerry Sobehrad, Kaz
Sobehrad and Sidney Castle; and three sisters, Antonette Pelich,
Josephine Petranek and Ann Skoumal.

Evelyn M. Kluball
Evelyn M. Kluball, 82, Wisconsin Veterans Home, King, a town of Stockton
native, died Saturday, July 19, 2003.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Main Chapel at the
Wisconsin Veterans Home in King, with Chaplain Wayne Schwanke
officiating. Burial will be in the Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery
in King.
Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel until the
services.
The Holly Funeral Home in Waupaca assisted the family with arrangements.
Mrs. Kluball was born May 5, 1921, in the town of Stockton, a daughter
of the late George and Caroline Anne (Lutz) Hoffman.
She was married to George John Walter on Sept. 14, 1946, in Milwaukee.
He died April 8, 1982.
She was married to Donald Kluball on Oct. 7, 1986, in Waupaca. He died
Nov. 22, 2002.
Survivors include two sisters, Mabel Gustafson, King, and Caroline
(Erwin) Maves, Amherst.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Georgie and Clarence
Hoffman.

Max K. Huey
Max E. Huey of 346
Plover St., a retired mail carrier, died Friday at 9:40 p. m. at St.
Michael's Hospital. He entered the hospital as a patient on Aug. 6 and
underwent surgery last Saturday.
The body is at the
Boston Funeral Home where friends may call at the west entrance after
1:30 p. in. on Sunday.
Funeral services will
be held at the funeral home at 2 p. m. Monday and burial will be made in
the Veterans Cemetery at King.
Mr. Huey was born at
Overton, Neb,, on Feb. 4, 1895, son of Mr. and Mrs., John B. Huey. After
he completed high school at Overton, he moved
with his parents to Portland. Ore. From Portland, he enlisted in the U.
S. Navy and served four years. He was discharged from the Navy and a
short time later he came here and worked for a short time on the Soo
Line .Railroad, Then he enlisted in the Army for service In World War I.
He was at El Paso, Tex., preparing to go overseas when the war ended.
He then returned to
Stevens Point and went to work in train service on the Soo Line,
continuing until 1938. By that time, he had experience as a substitute
mail carrier and he started as full time carrier at the local Post
Office. He retired from the postal service on Aug. 1, 1957. On June 4.
1918. he married Leone Viertel and the couple resided in Stevens Point
continuously since.
He was a member of
Berens-Scribner Post No. 6, American Legion, the local Odd Fellows
Lodge, the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen and Peace
United Church of Christ.
Mr. Huey is survived
by his wife; two daughters. Mrs. Tony (Maxine) Klein, Waukesha. and Mrs.
Joseph (Mary Jane) Jensen, Wauwatosa, and three grandsons and three
granddaughters.
He was
preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister. The Odd
Fellows ritual will be conducted at the funeral home at 7 p. m. Sunday,
and the American Legion ritual at 7:30 p.m. Sunday.

Mrs. Leone Huey
Mrs. Leone Huey, Route
J, Waupaca (McCrossen Lake), died early this morning at St. Michael's
Hospital. Mrs. Huey had suffered a stroke earlier this year and had
entered the hospital in June.
Friends may call after
4 p.m. Sunday at the Boston Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held
at 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. S. D. Birkner
officiating. Burial will follow in the Veterans Memorial Cemetery at
King. The Rev. Earl Allen will conduct the graveside committal services.
Mrs. Huey was born in
Stevens Point, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ernst Viertel. She
attended local schools and the Stevens Point Normal School.
On June 4, 1918, she
married Max E. Huey. He died on Aug. 14, 1959. Mrs. Huey was a Stevens
Point resident until seven years ago when she moved to Waupaca.
She is survived by two
daughters, Mrs. Anthony P. (Maxine) Klein, Waukesha, and Mrs. Joseph
(Mary Jane) Jensen, Wauwatosa; one brother, Ferdinand Viertel, 2040
McCulloch St., and one sister, Mrs. Merrill (Valerie) Baldwin, 1423
Wyatt Ave.; six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in
death by her husband, her parents and four brothers.
Mrs.
Huey was a member of Peace United Church of Christ, Barbara Rebekah
Lodge No. 9, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Brotherhood of Railroad
Trainmen and the Ladies Auxiliary of Berens-Scribner American Legion
Post No. 6.

Anthony P. Klein
Anthony P. Klein, 40,
Waukesha. a former Stevens Point and Park Falls resident died suddenly
Sunday morning.
He suffered a heart
attack at his home and died at a Waukesha Hospital. He had also had a
heart attack in 1957.
Mr. Klein was a fire
engineer for Hardware Mutuals in the Milwaukee area.
Born in Stevens Point on
April 13, 1921, he was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Klein.
He graduated from the
Stevens Point High School and attended Central State College here.
During World War II, Mr.
Klein was a Navy Air Corps pilot and saw extensive service in the Pacific
Theater. He entered the Navy Sept. 9, 1942, and was discharged as a
lieutenant junior grade on Nov. 6, 1945. He became an employee of Hardware
in May 1946. He was with the firm in Stevens Point until 1952, in Appleton
until 1955, in Eau Claire until 1959,and in Waukesha since then.
Mr. Klein is survived by
his wife the former Maxine Huey of Stevens Point, a daughter, Sandra, at
home, two sons David and Scott at home, his mother, Mrs. Joseph Gray,
Fairchild and a brother Walter Klein, Sumter, S.C. An infant son died in
1950.
He was a member of the
American Legion in Fairchild. Funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock
Thursday afternoon at the Boston Funeral Home. The Rev. Perry A. Saito of
St. Paul’s Methodist Church will officiate, and burial will take place in
the spring in the Grand Army Cemetery at King.
Friends may call at the
funeral home after 3 p.m. Wednesday. The body is now at the Randle Funeral
Home, Waukesha.

Maxine 'Moxie' Huey
Klein
Maxine "Moxie" Huey Klein, 82, a Stevens Point native, died Wednesday,
Nov. 6, 2002, at the Weyauwega Health Care Center in Weyauwega.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 11, at the Parfreyville United
Methodist Church of Waupaca, with Pastor John Christianson officiating.
Interment will be in the Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery at King.
No visitation is scheduled.
A memorial has been established in her name.
The Holly Funeral Home of Waupaca is assisting the family with
arrangements.
Mrs. Klein was born on Feb. 8, 1920, in Stevens Point, a daughter of the
late Max and Leone (Viertel) Huey.
She was married to Anthony Klein in October 1943 in Pensacola, Fla. He
died Dec. 17, 1961.
She was a volunteer at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King for 25 years
through her affiliation with the American Legion Auxiliary. She also did
volunteer work with other various county, church and civic groups. She
attended Parfreyville United Methodist Church for many years.
She also served as a poll worker during the 1990s for the town of
Farmington (Waupaca County) Elections Board.
Survivors include one daughter, Sharon Klein Reumpel, Waupaca; two sons,
Scott, Gulf Shores, Ala., and David, Clearwater, Fla.; one sister, Mary
Jane Jensen, Waupaca; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by an infant son, Greg.

Irene E. Dobbe
Irene E. Dobbe, 77, a town of Alban native, died Saturday, Oct. 25,
2003, at Waupaca Eldercare Home in Waupaca.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in
Waupaca, with the Rev. James Bump officiating. Burial will be in the
Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in King.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Voie Funeral Home in Iola.
Mrs. Dobbe was born Oct. 27, 1925, in the town of Alban, a daughter of
the late Hans and Julia (Lee) Hagen.
She was married to Earl O. Dobbe on Oct. 25, 1947, at Alban Lutheran
Church. He died Nov. 11, 2000.
She was a bookkeeper at several area financial institutions.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary at King and a former
organist at Alban and Concordia Lutheran churches at Rosholt.
Survivors include four sons, Roger (Lucille) Dobbe and Dale Dobbe, both
of Waupaca, Glenn (Linda) Dobbe, Custer, and Dean (Kay) Dobbe, Eagle
River; three brothers, Arthur (Nona) Hagen and Glen (Prudie) Hagen, both
of Waupaca, and Robert (Carol) Hagen, Mount Horeb; six sisters, Hattie
Haroldson and Delores Wilson, both of Waupaca, Vivian (Patrick)
Christensen, Aurora, Ill., V. June Spehn, Mount Prospect, Ill., Ruth
(Robert) Pierce, Tucson, Ariz., and Burnell (John) Morton of Verona;
nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Earl O. Dobbe
Earl O. Dobbe, 79, Waupaca, formerly of Rosholt, died Saturday, Nov. 11,
2000, at his residence. He had lived in Waupaca since 1968.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in
Waupaca, with the Rev. Charles Tews officiating. Burial will be in
Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery at King.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Voie Funeral Home in
Iola and after noon Tuesday at the church until the services.
Mr. Dobbe was born June 25, 1921, in the town of Alban, a son of the
late G. Oliver and Mabel (Anderson) Dobbe.
He was married to Irene Hagen on Oct. 25, 1947, at the Alban Lutheran
Church in the town of Alban.
He was a carpenter for Ellis Stone Construction and then a carpenter at
the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King for 16 years. After his retirement,
he was a cabinetmaker.
He was a life member of VFW Post 1037 of Waupaca, a 50-year member of
American Legion Post 161 of King and a former member of the Carpenters
Union.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, Roger (Lucille) and Dale, both of
Waupaca, Glenn (Linda), Custer, Dean (Kay), Eagle River; two sisters,
Harriet Young, Orlando, Fla., and Ruby Forseth, Waupaca; one brother,
Albert Dobbe, Waupaca; nine grandchildren; and seven
great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by one sister, Marion Paris.

Justine M.
Uteg
Justine M. Uteg, 83, Hancock, mother of a Bancroft man and a former
Wisconsin state commander of the Disabled American Veterans, died Tuesday,
May 18, 2004, at St. Michael's Hospital in Stevens Point.
Services will be at 8 p.m. Friday at Leikness and Stahl Funeral Home in
Plainfield. Inurnment will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Wisconsin Veterans
Cemetery in King.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. Friday at the funeral home until the
services.
A memorial has been established in lieu of flowers.
Mrs. Uteg was born March 18, 1921, in Chicago, Ill., a daughter of the
late Elmer and Mildred Marvin.
She was married to Herbert E. Uteg on May 15, 1938, in Chicago, Ill. He
died Sept. 2, 1997.
They moved to Hancock in 1968.
She and her husband volunteered for Disabled American Veterans for 25
years, and she served as the Wisconsin state commander. She spent many
years organizing benefits, meals and drives to help the residents at the
veterans home in King and elsewhere.
Survivors include three daughters, Joan (Robert) Lucas, Dorothy (David)
Smith and Corine (Ed) Japczyk, all of Hancock; one son, Jim (Kathy),
Bancroft; 19 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and one
great-great-grandchild.
She was also preceded in death by one son, Donald; and three
great-grandchildren.

Norman R. Prell
Norman R. Prell, 78, Waupaca, a Stevens Point native, died Friday, Jan.
4, 2002, at Riverside Medical Center in Waupaca.
Services will be at 4 p.m. Monday at Shepherd of The Lakes Lutheran
Church in Waupaca, with the Rev. Dean Wheeler officiating. Interment
will be in the Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in King.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Monday at the church. A memorial has
been established in his name in lieu of flowers. The Holly Funeral Home
of Waupaca is assisting the family with arrangements.
Mr. Prell was born Dec. 23,1923, in Stevens Point, a son of the late
Gerhardt and Charlotte (Keiling) Prell. He graduated from P.J. Jacobs
High School in Stevens Point in 1943.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was married to Betty
Charlesworth on June 10, 1945, in Stevens Point.
He worked for the Soo Line Railroad for 38 years, retiring as a
yardmaster in 1984. He also owned and operated Prell's Boat Livery on
the Chain O' Lakes in Waupaca for 30 years, retiring from the boat
business in 1978.
He was a member of the "Sippers," Friends of Camp Cleghorn, the Retired
Yardmasters Association, Berens-Scribner American Legion Post 6 in
Stevens Point and the Shepherd of The Lakes Lutheran Church in Waupaca.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Gary (Cheryl), Waupaca; two
daughters, Carol (Gerry) Jordan, Eau Claire, and Trudy (Ron) Pankow,
Stevens Point; two sisters, Selma Prell, Waupaca, and Ida Mae (Arlan)
Knutson, Janesville; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by one brother, Raymond, and one sister,
Irene Wiederhoft.

Waupaca Republican Post, Waupaca, Wis. Vol. 8, No. 35 - Sept 7,
1916
Loren Hollis passed away at his room in Marston Hall on Sunday
evening at the age of 86 years. The old gentleman had been confined to
his bed for the past nine months. With his wife he came to the home
about seventeen years ago. Prior to this time he resided at Tripp,
Wis. Mr. Hollis enlisted in 1861, serving in the 7th Wis. Battery.
After a years service he was taken ill and was discharged. In 1863, he
re-enlisted in the 23rd N.Y. Light Artillery, serving until the close
of the war. He had the honor of being with Custer, as lieutenant for
six years. When a lad of but fifteen years of age he carried mail on a
route in Texas by mule. Besides his wife, the veteran is survived by
two daughters, Mrs. Julia Duranso of Winchester, and Mrs. Clara
Stafford of Minnesota, one son, John Loren, of this place, also a
sister and brother of Tripp, Wis. Funeral services were held at the
Home chapel at one thirty on Tuesday, Rev. Peterson of Waupaca
officiating. Interment in the Home cemetery.

Waupaca County Post, Waupaca, Wisconsin - January 27, 1938
Mrs. Henrietta Hollis
Funeral services were for Mrs. Henrietta Hollis, Civil War widow were
held in the Chapel Friday, January 14, 1:30 p.m. The Rev. E. B. Earle
officiated. Mrs. Hollis was born in Baltimore, Maryland, Nov. 28, 1845
and died after a brief illness Jan. 12, 1938, in the Grand Army
Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Loren Hollis came to the Home from Marathon
county on Sept 26, 1898, and Mr. Hollis died here in 1916. Interment
for his widow was made in the Home cemetery beside his grave. Except
for two other Civil War windows here who came in 1895 and 1896
respectively, her years of residence in the Home exceeded all other
members. Survivors are a son, Loren of Superior, and several
grandchildren. Two daughters preceded her in death. Her cheery
personality, quick wit and friendly interest made her popular in
Marston Hall where she had resided since her widowhood, and she seldom
left the building in recent years. A beautiful floral piece from that
Hall betokened their regard for her. _________________________________

James King
Death of Old Soldier
James King, a Civil veteran who made his home with the Dell King
family in this city much of the time for a number of years, going to
the Wisconsin Veterans Home near Waupaca a month ago passed from life
at the hospital connected with that institution on Tuesday, aged 82
years. He had been in poor health for a long time and his death was
not wholly unexpected. Burial will take place in the Home cemetery
tomorrow, when the mourners will include Dell, Ed. and Frank King of
this city, nephews of the deceased. Mr. King was a widower, his wife
having preceded him in death, as did an only son.

Asbury Nix a former
Stevens Point
alderman and ex-prisoner of war (POW) passed away at St Michaels
Hospital. He had been a patient there for five days.
He remained active throughout his life as a spokesman for veterans and
POW's. Funeral services were at Shuda Funeral Chapel and burial at the
Veterans Cemetery, King,
Wis.
He joined the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1936. In 1938 he enlisted
in the US Army, serving in the
Phillippine Islands.
He was captured on the island of Corregidor in 1942 and was a prisoner
of the Japanese Army for 3 1/2 years.
He received the Bronze Star, Prisoner of War Medal, American Defense
Ribbon, American Campaign Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Theater with one
Bronze Star, Phillippine Defense Ribbon with a Bronze Star.
Presidential Unit citation with oak leaf clusters, Good Conduct Medal
with three knots, Occupation Ribbon for Europe, Victory medal and
seven overseas bars.
He retired from active duty in 1962. He moved to Stevens Point.
He was employed by Trade Winds Campers of Manawa until purchasing the
DuBay Marina which he operated until his retirement. He was a member
of the Stevens Point Common Council as a city alderman from 1979 to
1981. He served as a jury commissioner and circuit court bailiff.
Mr. Nix was Wisconsin commander of the American Ex-Prisoners of War,
past commander of Disabled American Veterans Chapter 30, a member of
the Central Wisconsin Chapter of American Ex-POWS, past commander of
American Legion Post 6 and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Ward.
He served on the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs Finance
Council, Council of Commanders, Council of Veterans Programs and the
King Veterans Home Committee.
He recently completed and published "Corregidor, Oasis of Hope," a
book he authored as an historical account of his experiences as a
Japanase POW.
He returned from a recent excursion to the Phillippines to commemorate
the 50th anniversary of the fall of
Corregidor.

Hazel E. Nix
Hazel E. Nix, 78, Wisconsin Veterans Home in King, formerly of Stevens
Point, died Thursday, Aug. 9, 2001, in Appleton.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Main
Chapel at Wisconsin Veterans Home in King, with the Rev. Paul Vanden
Hogen and Deacon Don Lobdell officiating. Burial will be in the
Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in King.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Holly Funeral Home
in Waupaca and from
10 a.m. Tuesday at the Main Chapel until the services.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established at a later date.
Mrs. Nix was born
Nov. 12, 1922, in
Stevens Point, a daughter of the late Harry and Ruth (Fulton) Sievwright. She graduated from
St. Stephen
Elementary School in 1936, P.J. Jacobs High School in 1940 and St.
Mary Nursing School in Wausau.
She was married to Asbury "Rock" Nix on Aug. 10, 1946, at St. Stephen
Rectory in
Stevens Point.
He died April 5, 1993.
She served in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps where she met her husband
while he was recovering after being released from a Japanese prisoner
of war camp. She lived in many states and foreign countries while he
served in the military. They returned to
Stevens Point
in 1961.
She retired from the nursing staff at River Pines Center in 1984.
She was actively involved in many veterans organizations, including
the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Ex-POWs and Disabled American Veterans.
She was a member of St. Stephen Catholic Church and the Catholic
Daughters of America.
Survivors include five daughters, Mary (Armando) Guzman, Holland,
Mich., Jan (Peter) Lutz, Plover, Kathy Nix, Phoenix, Ariz., Carole
(David) Olson, Stevens Point, and Elaine (Aubrey) Nelson, Tucson,
Ariz.; three sons, Dennis (Debbie), Dothan, Ala., David (MaryAnn),
Phoenix, Ariz., and James (Linda), Portsmouth, Va.; two sisters,
Marjorie Sievwright and Ruth Sievwright, both of Stevens Point; three
brothers, Harry Sievwright, King, Robert (Adeline) Sievwright,
Fremont, Calif., and Earle (Elizabeth) Sievwright, Stevens Point; nine
grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by one sisters, Eleanor Day Hubbard,
and three brothers, Jerry, James and John Sievwright.

Nancy Z. 'Nan' Mackaben
Nancy Z. "Nan" (Turrish) Mackaben, 89, Wisconsin Rapids, a town of
Buena Vista native and mother of a Stevens Point man, died Wednesday,
March 9, 2005, at her home following a long battle with cancer.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic
Church in
Wisconsin Rapids,
with the Rev. Andrew K. Karoblis officiating. Burial will be in
Veterans Cemetery in King.
Visitation will be at the church from 10 a.m. Saturday until the
services.
The family requests that memorials in her honor be sent to the
Franciscan Mission Associates,

Mt. Vernon, NY 10551-0598.
Higgins Funeral Home of Wisconsin Rapids is assisting with
arrangements.
Mrs. Mackaben was born June 27, 1915, in the town of Buena Vista, a
daughter of the late George and Zita (Bowden) Turrish. She moved with
her family to Stevens Point in 1922.
She attended
Central
State
Teachers College
(now the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point).
She was married to Claude Louis Mackaben on March 2, 1946, at St.
Stephen Catholic Church in Stevens Point. He died Jan. 17, 1996.
They were avid travelers, visiting Hawaii, throughout the United
States, Europe and Bermuda.
Survivors include two daughters, Margaret H. Mackaben, West Columbia,
S.C., and Kay (Terry) Rieman, Cheshire, Conn.; one son, Thomas T.
(Barbara), Stevens Point; two sisters, Catherine (Francis L.) Roman,
Stevens Point,
and Elinor (Raymond) Frankow, West Bend; and three grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by one son, James Claude; two brothers,
George Turrish Jr. and James Turrish; and two sisters, Margaret Leahy
and Alice Kaye.
