Elizabeth 'Betty' A. Engle

Elizabeth "Betty" A. Engle, 75, King, mother of a Stevens Point man, died Saturday, Aug. 18, 2001, at the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Faith Community Church in Waupaca, with the Rev. Gary Strike officiating. Interment will be in the Lakeside Memorial Park Cemetery in Waupaca.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Holly Funeral Home in Waupaca and from 10 a.m. Thursday at the church until the services. A prayer service will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

A memorial has been established to the Multiple Sclerosis Association in her name in lieu of flowers.

Mrs. Engle was born Nov. 29, 1925, in Chicago, Ill., a daughter of the late Fred and Elizabeth (Durbach) Krebs.

She was married to Vernon L. Engle Sr. on Sept. 8, 1945, in Lansing, Ill. He died June 20, 1982.

Survivors include two daughters, Violet (Rev. Gary) Strike, Waupaca, and Carol (Steve) Buck, Waupaca; four sons, Vernon L. Jr. (Peg), Stevens Point, Richard (Francine), Appleton, and Alfred and David (Pamela), both of Waupaca; one sister, Mary (Ted) Syverson, Edgerton; one brother, Fred (Lorraine) Krebs, Mundelein, Ill.; 21 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Sue Ann Haase; one son, Robert; and one sister, Ann Marie Krebs.

Lois Mae Edminster

Lois Mae Edminster, 76, Waupaca, died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2001, at Crystal River Nursing Home, Waupaca.

A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church, Waupaca, with the Rev. Paul Nulton officiating. Friends may call from 3 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in Lakeside Memorial Park, Waupaca. A memorial has been established to the Crystal River Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in her name. The Holly Funeral Home, Waupaca, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Lois was born Aug. 14, 1925, in Waupaca, a daughter of the late Oscar and Averil (Johnson) Winkler. She was married to Reuben W. Edminster on June 5, 1954, in Waupaca. He preceded her in death on June 20, 1996.

Lois was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Waupaca. She was a member of the church choir for many years. She sang with the Waupaca Community Choir for many years and had sung solos through the years for a number of funerals. She was a member of the Waupaca Chapter of the Rebekah Samaritan Lodge, a soloist at the state Rebekah Assemblies and a member of the Badger Ladies Aide.

Prior to her marriage, she was employed as a telephone operator in Waupaca for about 10 years. She was employed as a certified nursing assistant at Riverside Medical Center, Waupaca, for about 11 years, retiring in 1987.

Lois is survived by one son, R. William Edminster, McHenry, Ill.; one daughter, Mary Edminster, Stevens Point; one brother, Carroll Winkler, Waupaca; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Reuben; her parents; and a sister, Genevieve Barnhart.

Gerhart Prell

Gerhart Ludwig Prell, 75, a retired employee of the Soo Line Railroad, died at 8:15 Tuesday night at Riverside Hospital, Waupaca. where he was admitted that morning. 

The Prell home is at 1001 Church St., but the couple spent their summers at the Waupaca Chain 0’ Lakes. Mr. Prell was secretary of the Camp Cleghorn Association, an organization of cottage owners on Columbian Lake.

Born in Stevens Point March 5, 1888, he was a lifelong resident here. His parents were the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Prell. On June 21, 1916, he was married here to the former Charlotte Keiling of Stevens Point.

Mr. Prell was with the Soo Line for 43 years, most of the time as a claims adjuster. He retired about 10 years ago.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and its Brotherhood and had been secretary of the Camp Cleghorn Association for 12 years.

Surviving are his wife; three daughters, Miss Selma Prell, at home, Mrs. Alvin (Irene) Weiderhoft, Clear Lake, and Mrs. Arlan (Idamae) Knutson, Rochester, Minn.; two sons, Raymond, at home, and Norman, 415 N. Soo Marie Ave.; seven grandchildren; a brother, the Rev. Paul Prell, St. Louis, Mo., and two sisters, William Schulz, Racine, and Mrs. Ernest Meier, Geneseo, Ill.

A brother and six sisters preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 3 o’clock at Trinity Lutheran Church, with The Rev. Raymond Paulsen of Bethany Home, Waupaca, officiating.

Burial will follow in Lakeside Cemetery, Waupaca. Friends may call at, the Prell home at 1001 Church St. from 7 o’clock This evening until 11 a.m. Friday, and from noon until the time of the services at the church. The Boston Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A memorial fund has been established in Mr. Prell’s name.

Mrs. Gerhart Prell

Mrs. Gerhart Prell. 77, a former Stevens Point resident living in Neenah, died Saturday morning at Theda Clark Hospital, Neenah, after an extended illness

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church. The Rev. Daniel Litzer will officiate. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Waupaca.

Friends may call at the family’s former residence. 2500 Church St., today. Visitation will also be held from 11 am. until time of services Tuesday at the church.

The Boston Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. A memorial has been established in Mrs. Prell’s name.

The former Charlotte Keiling was born Feb. 2. 1897, in Stevens Point, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Christ Keiling. She attended local schools, before marrying Gerhart Prell in Stevens Point in 1916 Mrs Prell worked for Brecker Transfer Co. here for many years. while her husband was employed by the Soo Line Railroad.

Her husband died in 1963 She continued to live at the family’s home, 2500 Church St. until moving to Neenah to live with her daughter Selma
in 1966

Survivors include two sons. Raymond, Neenah. and Norman, Waupaca, three daughters, Selma Prell, Neenah, Mrs Irene Wiederhoft, King. and Mrs
Arlan (ldamae) Knutson, Janesville. seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Two brothers and one sister preceded her in death.

Selma D. Prell

Selma D. Prell, 86, Waupaca, a Stevens Point native, died Sunday, June 13, 2004, at Crystal River Nursing Home in Waupaca.

Services will be at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Shepherd of the Lakes Lutheran Church in Waupaca, with the Rev. Dean Wheeler officiating. Burial will be in Lakeside Memorial Park in Waupaca.

Visitation will be at the church from 4 p.m. Wednesday until the services.

Holly Funeral Home of Waupaca is assisting the family with arrangements.

Miss Prell was born June 19, 1917, in Stevens Point, a daughter of the late Gerhardt L. and Charlotte I. (Keiling) Prell.

She taught in the Marshfield school system for 30 years before moving to Waupaca.

She was a volunteer driver for the transportation program through Waupaca County and also for Meals on Wheels.

Survivors include one sister, Idamae (Arlan) Knutson, Janesville; and many nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond P. Prell and Norman R. Prell; and one sister, Irene Wiederhoft.

Otis Worden, 79, of the Town of Plover, died at Sarasota, Fla., Friday afternoon. Funeral arrangements are pending at the Boston Funeral Home.

Worden services
Funeral services for Otis Worden, 79, 206 Post Road, Plover, wilt be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Boston Funeral home. The Rev. Thomas F. Saffold, First Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Waupaca.

Friends may call after 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. A memorial has been established in his name.

Mr. Worden died Friday at a hospital in Sarasota, Fla. He and his wife Sylvia were spending the winter in Florida.

Born Nov. 27, 1896, in the Town of Buena Vista, he was the son of the !ate Mr. and Mrs. George Worden. He married Sylvia Peterson on June 23, 1921, in Waupaca County.

The couple lived in the Town of Linwood until moving to Stevens Point in 1928. Mr. Worden operated a grocery store and chicken hatchery on 3rd Street until 1933.

He and his wife moved to Springville, Town of Plover, where he operated a chicken hatchery until his retirement. He then worked for Asphalt Products Co.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Clifford, Grand Rapids, Mich.; two daughters, Mrs. Donald (Norma) Kunde, Middleton, and Mrs. Douglas (Janice) Sorenson, Cedarburg; one sister, Mrs. Dee {Ruby) Bourn, 2240 Patch St.; 10 grandchildren and one greatgrandchild.

One sister, six brothers and three sisters preceded him in death.

Neither Otis or Sylvia's obituary mentions they had a son who was killed during World War II. He is shown in the 1930 census of Stevens Point WI, obituaryindex of the online UWSP Archives and on the Waupaca County web site as being buried in Lakeside Memorial Park Cemetery.

Sylvia B. Peterson-Worden


Sylvia B. Worden, 102, a former Stevens Point resident, died Thursday, March 20, 2003, at Hospicecare Inc., Fitchburg.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, March 22, in the chapel at Hospicecare in Fitchburg.

Mrs. Worden was born Feb. 8, 1901, in Antigo, a daughter of the late Charles and Pearl Peterson.

She was married to Otis Worden on June 23, 1921. He died in January 1976.

She taught in one-room rural schools until her retirement in the 1960s.

Survivors include one son, Clifford (Lu), Grand Rapids, Mich.; two daughters, Norma Kunde, Middleton, and Janis (Doug) Sorenson, Cedarburg; 10 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.

La Deane Lyon

La Deane Lyon, 55, died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2003, at Harmony Village, 1800 Bluebell Lane, Stevens Point.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Plover. Interment will be in Lakeside Memorial Park Cemetery in Waupaca.

Visitation will be at the church from 9 a.m. Saturday until the services.

Holly Funeral Home in Waupaca is assisting the family with arrangements.

Ms. Lyon was born Dec. 9, 1947 in Waupaca, a daughter of the late Leo C. and Margaret S. (Olson) Lyon.

She was a bookkeeper in her father's auto service shop in Waupaca for many years.

Survivors include one sister, Leola (Lynn) Hild, Stevens Point; and one brother, Charles (Kathryn) Lyon, New London.

Mrs. Edna Keffner


Mrs. Edna Keffner, 82, Waupaca, died Monday, morning at the Stratton Rest Home In Nelsonville. She had been cared for there during the past nine weeks.

Services will be at the Holly Funeral Home, Waupaca, Thursday at 2 p.m. The Rev. Justus E. Olson of the First Methodist Church there will officiate. Mrs. Keffner was a member of the church. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Waupaca. Friends may call at the funeral home after 1:30 p. m. Wednesday.

The former Edna Hetzel was born in the Almond area May 27, 1874, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Michael Hetzel. She was married March
24, 1892, to Jacob Keffner at Almond. Mr. Keffner died in October, 1944.

Surviving are three children, Chester, Amherst, Mrs. Walter Morey, Waupaca and Mrs. Eva Jenney, Sparta, N. J,; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Arthur Hetzel, Tampa, Fla., and two sisters. Miss Lydia Hetzel, Waupaca, and Mrs. Ruth Harshaw, Winnetka, Ill.

Lydia A. Hetzel

Lydia A. Hetzel, 91, an Almond area native, died Tuesday morning at Riverside Community Hospital, Waupaca. She had been living at the Weyauwega Health Care Center.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the Holly Funeral Home, Waupaca, where friends may call after 6 p.m. Thursday and before services Friday. The Rev. Leon Leeds will officiate. Burial will be in Lakeside Memorial Park, Waupaca.

Miss Hetzel was born Feb 24, 1886, near Almond, a daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Michael Hetzel She moved to the Waupaca area in 1924. She was a housekeeper.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

Paul S. Gray

Funeral services for Paul S. Gray, 85, Waupaca, were held recently at the Holly Funeral Home at Waupaca, with the Rev. Harold Reemstma of the First Baptist Church at Waupaca in charge. Burial was made in Lakeside Cemetery there.

Mr. Gray, a retired painter, died at the Waupaca Rest Home. He was born in the Town of Belmont on Jan. 6, 1885, and he married Daisey Sawyer at Parfreyville on Oct. 12, 1909. Mrs. Gray died in 1918. Mr. Gray is survived by one son, Perry, Hoquiam, Wash.; three daughters, Mrs. Alfred Peterson, Campbellsport, Mrs. Lyle Hetzel, Almond, and Mrs. Vivian Knutson, Aberdeen, Wash; a step-daughter, Mrs. Sam Allison, Amherst; a brother, Zern Gray, Marysville, Wash., and 12 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.

Kathryn 'Cassie' Forseth

Kathryn "Cassie" Forseth, 74, Waupaca, a Stevens Point native, died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002, at her residence.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waupaca, with the Rev. Sean Motley officiating. Burial will be in Lakeside Memorial Park Cemetery in Waupaca.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Holly Funeral Home in Waupaca.

A memorial has been established in her name.

Mrs. Forseth was born Dec. 15, 1927, in Stevens Point, a daughter of the late Charles M. and Glenn (Hibbard) Rosenow.

She was married to Roger P. Forseth on Oct. 16, 1948, in Stevens Point. He died Sept. 29, 1995.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Suzanne (David) Kropilnicki, Waupaca; three sons, Charles (Nancy), Augusta, and Fred (Kathy) and Peter (Carol), both of Waupaca; two sisters, Laura Jane Kingston, Stevens Point, and Charlotte Sturm, Billings, Mont.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Brenda E. Jensen

Brenda E. Jensen, 34, Amherst, died Thursday, Aug. 5, 2004, as a result of an automobile accident.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church in the town of Buena Vista, with the Revs. James Kurzinski and Bala Swamy Maddu officiating. Burial will be at Lakeside Memorial Park in Waupaca.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Holly Funeral Home in Waupaca with a prayer service at 7 p.m.

Miss Jensen was born Dec. 20, 1969, in Appleton, a daughter of Raymond Jensen and Connie Hansen.

She was scheduled to marry Robert Helbach Jr. on Aug. 28.

Survivors include her father, Raymond Jensen, Shawano; her mother, Connie Hansen, Waupaca; her fiancé, Robert Helbach Jr., Amherst; two brothers, Todd (Tina) Jensen, Waupaca, and Tim Jensen, Kaukauna; two sisters, Deborah (Bill) Vetter, Waupaca, and Mellissa (Dan) Moseng, New London; her maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Kussman, Marion.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Jensen; and one brother.

Zephrene V. Johnson

Zephrene V. Johnson, 67, Waupaca, a town of Alban native and mother of a Plover man, died Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004, at her residence.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waupaca. Interment of cremains will be in Lakeside Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date.

Visitation will be at the church from 10 a.m. Monday until the services.

Holly Funeral Home of Waupaca is assisting the family with arrangements.

Mrs. Johnson was born March 20, 1937, in the town of Alban, a daughter of late Joseph Frank and Victoria B. (Spitza) Garski.

She was married to Duane R. Johnson on Oct. 22, 1955, in Detroit, Mich.

Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Diane (David) Midkiff, Kimberly; one son, Duane E. (Julie) Johnson, Plover; four sisters, Grace Jisko, Plover, Florence Moen, Iola, Mary Ann (Leo) VanRixel, Mosinee, and Theresa (Joel) Johnson, Amherst Junction; and three grandchildren.
