Seth Thompson
One by one the old settlers are passing away. “Uncle”
Seth Thompson, as he was familiarly known, died suddenly last Friday
morning at his home in the Second Ward, aged 73 years. Mr.
Thompson was a native of York state, and settled on a farm near
Amherst in the 50’s. He
moved to a farm in Lind several years ago, coming to town to live in
1891. He
was a hard working, honest man, one who had many friends, and whose
death will be mourned by all who knew him. He
had been ill for some time with heart failure, but had seemed better
lately, passing away peacefully as stated. The
funeral was held on Sunday afternoon, Rev. E. Perry officiating. Besides
his wife, two daughters, Mrs. George Plowman and Miss Thompson are
left.

GEO. PLOWMAN VICTIM OF DREADED PNEUMONIA
The community was shocked to learn of the
death of George Plowman which occurred last Sunday morning at 5
o’clock. Only
a week intervened between the first call of the physician and the
funeral which took place Wednesday at 1 o’clock at the home four miles
east of the city, Rev. A.T. Erickson officiating. The
death was a great surprise to the family and to the physician as the
evening previous he was cheerful and feeling so well as to believe
that he would be out in a day or two. Death
came without a moment’s warning and at a time when his faithful wife
had left the room to look after one of the children whom the sick man
imagined was worrying.
Deceased was born in the town of Waupaca, Feb. 14,
1866, and was the third of a family of nine children. In
1890 he was united in marriage to Nettie Thompson of the same town and
a schoolmate of his childhood. Of
this union ten children were born of whom eight survive, besides the
afflicted widow, an aged father, two brothers and five sisters. The
mother and a brother, Robert, died several years ago. Arthur Plowman
of Elderon is confined to his home by sickness and was unable to
attend the funeral, which was attended by a very large number of
relatives and old friends and neighbors.
The sorrowing family have the sympathy of all in this
seeming untimely taking of a kind and up-right husband and father. The
community has suffered by this loss of an esteemed neighbor and
townsman, taken in the prime of manhood.

reached his aide. Heart failure was found to be the cause of death, and
came as a great surprise, as be never complained of his heart, and as

thin in flesh, and not predisposed to have a trouble of this kind.

7, 1847, but had made London his home since a small boy, and was a
cabinetmaker by trade. He spent about eight months here and at Waupaca

determined to come again. His family, consisting of a wife, son and
married daughter, are still in London, and be ie also survived by his

disposition and sterling character and had made many pleasant
acquaintances sines coming to Stevens Point.
