Waupaca County Newspapers Merge into New Waupaca
County Post
March 4, 2009
Five Journal Community
Publishing Group newspapers with a combined weekly circulation of nearly
17,000 merged this week to form the new Waupaca County Post.
The combined weekly uses
efficiencies that allows the publisher to continue to provide readers with
the local content they want and gives advertisers greater reach within
their market area. The New London Press Star, Clintonville Tribune Gazette
and Manawa Advocate will form the new east zone of the Waupaca County Post
with a circulation of roughly 7,000. The former Waupaca County Post,
Weyauwega Chronicle and Iola Herald comprise the new county paper’s west
zone with a press run of approximately 10,000.
“We are excited and pleased
to bring together our long standing weekly newspapers into a stronger
model that maintains the integrity of our staff’s hyper local focus in
addition to a broader county perspective,” said Publisher John McClure.
“We had a unique opportunity to present our readers and advertisers with a
county newspaper that unites the talents of five local office news teams
with an in-county penetration of nearly 80 percent for our advertisers.”
The weekly will be
distributed on Thursdays with the A section zoned to cover either the East
or West portion of the county; the B section will be common to both zones.
Advertisers can zone their advertising message by east, west or both
zones.
The A section editorial
content will focus on maintaining local pages pertinent to each zone, and
the B section will lead with sports, include countywide news and the
classified pages. A community portal website will accompany the new
Waupaca County Post printed edition. Community blogs and additional local
information will be posted on the new website.
