Symco E. F. Bard and mother of Manawa, and Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Bard of Stevens Point, visited with Chas Bard on Wednesday last week. A surprise party at the residence of Isaac Losier was enjoyed by our young folks Wednesday night. Mrs. Elliott nee Effie Baldwin, of Plainfield, came to visit her father, Marion Baldwin, on Friday. Mable Swagger came on Thursday to see her mother who is ill; returning to Pine River on Tuesday morning. Mrs. Karnin's brother, his wife and two children, came from near Milwaukee to spend New Year's returning home on Monday. Other Hattie Allender of Gillet, was in town Monday, on her way to Riverside, where she will visit her parents. Eva Morris is visiting at Wolf River this week. Lester Burgess and wife of Wolf River, were the guests of Lewis Burgess and wife at this berg, New Years. Albert Girard, shouldered his "turkey", and went to the woods near Menominee Thursday. Wm. Allender went to scale logs for the mill Co. at Belle Plain. The New London Press - New London, WI - February 17, 1898 Embarrass A. Girard, came home from the woods Wednesday, he received a painful injury while loading logs. T. Alender of Riverside, made a pleasant call here Thursday. F. Webster of Belle Plain, was in town Wednesday last. T. Nicholson is harvesting his annual crop of ice this week, so is Wm. Allender. At the wood sawing contest at the hall Saturday night, of
six ladies, Mr. Wm. Conklin, won the prize of a set of silverware of 27
pieces for sawing the most wood. The New London Press - New London, WI - February 24, 1898 Embarrass This district was visited Saturday and Sunday with the worst blizzard that ever struck our village Marion Morris of Tigerton, visited relatives in town Saturday. Embarrass has a doctor at last. Dr. Gribbin and wife of Baraboo, are here and intend to locate in this berg. Dr. Finney of Clintonville, was called to this place Wednesday by the serious illness of Mrs. Ewers/ Albert Girard, who came home from the woods last week with a painful injury, caused by falling from load of logs, is slowly recovering. Mrs. E. Miller, who last week was at death's door, and with the aid of Dr. Gribben, she is able to be out again. Guarard went up to Red River Monday, to drive for Chas. Maggie of Shawano. John Krubsack had a crew of men digging a cellar for him, over which he will put a cheese factory as soon as possible. Mr. Andrew Anderson has moved in one of his houses in town. Station Agent J. W. Wellner, will leave Monday for Spokane, Washington. Mr. Beedle will be the agent again, as we have learned. Miss A. Miller went to Clintonville, Saturday. Chas. and W. J. Guarard of Burnt Valley, spent Sunday with our boys. Alvin Potts went to Belle Plain Sunday. The New London Press - New London, WI - April 21, 1898 Embarrass J. W. Morgan and daughter Nora, left Tuesday morning for Montana, where J. W. has a government position as agent of the Flathead Indians in Northwestern Montana. The family expect to go some time next summer. Nina Wentworth of Belle Plain, is visiting in town this week. T. Allender moved into his house he recently purchased in town. Wednesday. Mable Allen took the train Saturday for Pelican Lake, Wis, where she will spend the summer with her sister, Mrs. J. Wickland. F. Sheldon formerly of this town but now of Kansas City Mon., is visiting relatives in town this week. Mrs. Jane Allender of Menasha, is visiting in this township this week. L. A. Burgess and wife of Wolf River, attended divine services in this village Sunday. Mark Smith returned to Menasha Monday morning whether he was called to this place by the death of his brother Roy. Mrs. Jane Allender returned to her home at Neenah Saturday. Her mother Mrs. E. Girard accompanied her home. Clintonville Tribune - Clintonville, WI - April 29, 1898 Burnt Valley Dave Shephard made a flying visit to Clintonville Monday. Miss Lulu Morgan called at Clintonville Monday. A young son put in his appearance at C. J. Sheldon's Tuesday night. Mrs. A. Girard is on the sick night. Mrs. H. D. Morgan and daughter called on Mrs. J. R. Sheldon Tuesday afternoon. It is rumored that Oscar Morgan and Chas. Girard have enlisted in the navy. The New London Press - New London, WI - May 5, 1898 Burnt Valley W. M. Winslow and James Whitehouse are rearing their drive through this place this week. Mrs. M. B. Fuller and Mrs. Ditzler of Frog Valley were visitors at Mrs. D. Shepherd's this week. Henry Clouson was again to the front Sunday. C. Sheldon was a pleasant caller Sunday. John Sheldon is studying matrimony, he has a notion. H. D. Morgan made a trip to S. Pott's last week. A fight between A. Husky and the Gorrard brothers, the scrap lasting five minutes. One of the humblest men of Embarrass called on C. Sheldon Saturday. A Bratson visited his parents Sunday in this place. The New London Press - New London, WI - August 11, 1898 Northport Will Butler has resumed his position as labor on the section, after being laid up four months with a broken leg. Messers. Pete Jameson, Bert Post and J. Schultz, attended the picnic at New London Sunday. A. Rassmussen our station agent, has resigned his position. Pete Jameson of Scandinavia has filled his vacancy. Mr. Rasmussen has accepted a position on the C. & N. W. RR. Rumors are out for another dance Friday night. That's right boys keep it a going. Clarence Richards took in Buffalo Bill's show at Oshkosh last Wednesday. New London Press - September 8, 1898 EMBARRASS Decker & Smith has purchased a brand new shingle machine and outfit for their plant here, and are placing it this week, getting ready for shingle making. Miss Kittie Allender, who has been employed in the match factory at Oshkosh the past two years, is visiting relatives in town this week. John Sheldon got tired of city life and moved back on the farm in Burnt Valley. L. H. Burgess and wife, visited relatives in Tigerton Friday and Saturday. Miss Elsie Smith returned from a trip up the line Saturday evening. Mrs. Wm. Allender spent Sunday with her father and sister at Belle Plain. Walter Allen of Menasha, wheeled to this burg Wednesday. Mrs. Chas. Morris of Wolf River, visited relatives in town Sunday. Sam Potts of Wolf River, was called here Monday. Chas. and Clifford Girard of Burnt Valley, wheeled to out town one day this week. Gust. Jenson and lady friend, were out for a drive Sunday evening.

Euhearty called at Stinson Sunday. Mrs. C. J. Sheldon and her brother of Birnamwood, called Embarrass Monday. Mrs. M. Cass is on the sick list this week. Clayton Cass who has been confined to his bed since last March is rapidly improving at present. J. U. Church of Indian Rock, Ohio, called on his sister of the burg Sunday. The New London Press - New London, WI - October 13, 1898 Nate Lozier had a finger sawed some time ago, it has been stiff ever since; last week Dr. Hilton took it off and it is now doing nicely. I. Lozier, who has been quite sick is improving and thinks he will soon be able to come down town and beat someone at checkers. Rumor has it that our young M. D. is going to take unto himself a wife this week. Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Tilkey drove to Embarrass Wednesday. Robert Smith is home laid up with a abscess on his arm. The New London Press - New London, WI - November 24, 1898 Embarrass Albert Girard's horses ran away Friday; no one was injured, but the wagon is a little the worse for the trip. Alvin Potts, P. D. Kearn and James Brown went to Waupaca as witnesses in the Chas. Brown lawsuits. Freeman Ewers, Wm. Allender and others of this place are hunting deer up north. Some of our young people passed a pleasant evening at a surprise given Miss Thede at Wolf River, Saturday. Louis Burgess, a former resident of Embarrass, walked our streets Wednesday. J. W. Morgan came over eight hundred miles to cast the first vote for Scofield in Embarrass. Clintonville Tribune - Clintonville, WI - December 16, 1898 Embarrass Mrs. D. Matteson of Phlox, Wis, the mother of Mrs. J. Wait of this place, arrived here last Saturday and expects to stay for some time with the latter. Will and Fred Brown have gone to the northern woods. Miss Elsie Smith, who has been teaching school south of this place, closed her fall term of school last Friday and is now at home. Miss Martha Thede of Wolf River, was the guest of Miss H. Allender several days last week. Albert Girard is at present engaged in selling and delivering fish, both fresh and smoked.
