Mary Ann M. Helgeson-Twetan

Mary Ann M. Helgeson-Twetan, 83, Stevens Point, formerly of Iola, died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, at Oakridge Senior Living in Stevens Point.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Iola, with the Rev. Dennis Olson officiating. Interment will be in Northland Lutheran Cemetery in the town of Harrison, Waupaca County.

Visitation will be at the church from 10 a.m. Thursday until the service.

A memorial fund has been established in her name to the Parkinson’s Foundation.

Voie Funeral Home of Iola assisted the family with arrangements. Condolences may be offered online at www.voiefuneralhome.com.

Mrs. Helgeson-Twetan was born May 25, 1929, in Neenah, a daughter of the late August and Anna (Lemke) Winter. She attended schools in Neenah, Symco and Tigerton.

She was married to Charles Helgeson on June 12, 1948. He died on Dec. 15, 1978.

They farmed in the town of Harrison in Waupaca County.

She was married to Orin Twetan on Aug. 23, 1986. He died on Jan. 22, 2003.

They lived in Iola.

She worked at Zwicker Knitting Mills in Waupaca and Krause Publications in Iola for many years.

She was a Sunday School teacher, member of various women’s groups at Northland and Our Savior’s Lutheran churches and was a 4-H leader.

Survivors include one son, Randolph (Debra) Helgeson, Milton; one daughter, Deborah Zurawski, Plover; one sister, Lucille Vandenberg; one brother, Russell (Laverne) Winter; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Angeline Wrolstad

Angeline Wrolstad, 85, Iola, mother of an Amherst Junction man, died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2007, at the Iola Living Assistance in Iola.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Northland Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Northland Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the Voie Funeral Home in Iola from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Mrs. Wrolstad was born March 2, 1921, in West Frankfort, Ill., a daughter of the late Frank and Anna (Lelak) Tominsek.

She was married to Oliver Wrolstad on July 29, 1944, in Milwaukee.

She and her husband operated the Northland Store for many years.

Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Jeanne (Robert) Opperman, Iola; two sons, Gordon (Pam), Maple Grove, Minn., and James, Amherst Junction; two brothers, Frank Tominsek, Big Bend, and Edward (Dorothy) Tominsek, Milwaukee; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Oliver M. Wrolstad

Oliver M. Wrolstad, 91, Iola, a town of New Hope native, died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2012, at Iola Living Assistance in Iola.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Northland Lutheran Church in Iola, with the Rev. Dan Somers officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be at Voie Funeral Home in Iola from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and at the church from 10 a.m. Wednesday until the services.

Mr. Wrolstad was born Feb. 16, 1920, in the town of New Hope, a son of the late Oscar and Ida (Dobbe) Wrolstad.

He was married to Angeline Tominsek on July 29, 1944, in Milwaukee. She died on Jan. 7, 2007.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1946 during World War II.

He worked as a self-employed carpenter, having his own construction company for many years. He and his wife owned and operated Northland Store. Later, he worked as a maintenance engineer at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King.

He was a supervisor on the town of Harrison Board and a fire warden for a number of years. He was active at the Northland Lutheran Church, serving on the church council, the cemetery board and working at the lutefisk suppers.

Survivors include one daughter, Jeanne (Robert) Opperman, Iola; two sons, Gordon (Pam), Maple Grove, Minn., and James (Kristie Kosobucki), Amherst Junction; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by one sister, Margaret Peterson; three brothers, Phillip, Vernon and Julian; and one granddaughter.

Norris Ernest Hanson

Norris Ernest Hanson, 89, Appleton, a former Iola resident and father of a Plover woman, died Wednesday, April 22, 2009.
 
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Northland Lutheran Church, N9880 Highway 49, nine miles north of Iola, with the Rev. Nate Liedtke officiating. Interment will be in Northland Lutheran Cemetery in the town of Harrison in Waupaca County.
 
Visitation will be at the church from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday.
 
Voie Funeral Home in Iola is assisting the family with arrangements.
 
Mr. Hanson was born April 13, 1920, in the town of Harrison in Waupaca County, a son of the late Nells and Emma (Erickson) Hanson. He grew up on a farm near Norske.
 
He served for two years in the United States Army during World War II.
 
He later moved to Milwaukee and worked at the Laddish Company. He then moved back to the Northland area and farmed the Borge farm for 13 years.
 
He was married to Dorris Paulsen on March 11, 1950, in Chicago, Ill. She died on April 28, 1979.
 
He moved to Iola and operated the Iola Pickle station and the Oslo Corner Import Store.
 
He was married to Helen M. Giuliani on Sept 27, 1980, in Iola.
 
He was a member of Northland Lutheran Church in Iola.
 
He and Helen retired to Yuma, Arizona in 1989 and after 17 years they moved to Appleton.
 
Survivors include his wife, Helen, Appleton; four sons, Eric (Jane), Appleton, Harold, Chicago, Ill., Ivan, Brillion, and Norris Jr., Eagle River; two daughters, Joy Hanson, Weyauwega, and Sonia (John) Lee, Plover; one stepson, Robert (Judy) Bowers, Wasilla, Alaska; one sister, Elizabeth Pederson, Norske; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
 
He was also preceded in death by one stepdaughter, Mary Ann Bowers; one brother, Joseph; two sisters, Edna (Ray) Adams and Carla (Ole) Holtane; and one grandson.

Andy O. Amundson

Andy O. Amundson, 60, Iola, a Stevens Point native, died Friday, July 16, 2010, at Ministry St. Michael's Hospital in Stevens Point.

A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Northland Lutheran Church in the town of Iola in Waupaca County, with the Rev. Dan Somers officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation will be at the church from 11:30 a.m. Wednesday until the service.

Mr. Amundson was born Jan. 4, 1950, in Stevens Point, a son of the late Alfred H. and Aleda J. (Anderson) Amundson.

He worked for Faldet Farms in Iola for 15 years.

Survivors include one sister, Anita (Donald) Faldet, Iola; one brother, Vernon (Jerilyn) Amundson, Iola; and several nieces and nephews.

Richard "Dickie" Merde

Richard "Dickie" Merde, 66, Iola, died Saturday, March 28, 2009, at the Appleton Medical Center.

He was born Feb. 9, 1943, in Northland, town of Harrison, son of the late Julian A. and Margaret (Hoffman) Merde.

He was employed at Four Wheel Drive Corp. in Clintonville for more than 20 years as a welder and doing fabrication of cabs for fire trucks. He had been a member of the Army National Guard.

Survivors include two sisters, Marian (Don) Carlson and Carol (Clarence) Carlson, both of Milwaukee; and a brother, Julian (Carole) Merde, Iola.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today at the Northland Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service today at the church.

Voie Funeral Home, Iola, is in charge of arrangements.

Vickie S. Randles

Vickie S. Randles, 38, town of Sharon, died Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009, at her residence.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, at the Northland Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Dan Somers officiating. Inurnment will be in the Northland Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the church from 11:30 a.m. Wednesday until the services.

Mrs. Randles was born May 5, 1971, in Waupaca, a daughter of Verlyn and Shirley (Krause) Hanson.

She was married to Arthur Randles on Dec. 19, 2007, in Wood County.

She was employed through Kelly Services at RR Donnelley in Plover.

She was a collector of cars and ceramic cats, dogs and unicorns.

Survivors include her husband; one stepson, Charles Lee Randles; one stepdaughter, Harley Lynn Randles; her parents, Verlyn C. and Shirley Hanson; one brother, Kelvin Hanson; and her maternal grandfather, Milton Krause.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Helen Krause; her paternal grandparents, Clarence and Hilda Hanson; and her maternal great-grandparents, Fred and Golla Krause.

Norman L. Smith

Norman L. Smith, 86, Care Partners Assisted Living, Plover, died there Monday, March 5, 2007, while under the care of hospice.
 
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Boston Funeral Home, with the Rev. Nancy Zorn Micke officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Northfield Lutheran Cemetery in Northfield.
 
Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. Friday until the service.
 
Memorials may be given to the Portage County Commission on Aging.
 
Mr. Smith was born April 27, 1920, in Trempealeau County, a son of the late Lyle and Edith (Warren) Smith. As a youngster, he moved to Whitehall with his family and graduated from high school there in 1939.
 
He later moved to Bremerton, Wash., to work at Puget Sound Navy Yard for a couple of years.
 
He was married to Norma Nelson in Elkader, Iowa, on Oct. 22, 1940. She died May 7, 1988.
 
He joined the U.S. Army in 1943 and served with the 30th Infantry Division during the Battle of the Bulge. He received a Bronze Star, European Theater Ribbon and Combat Infantryman Badge. He received an honorable discharge in August 1945.
 
Following military service, he moved back to Whitehall and bought a school bus line with his brother. He also drove for charter trips. Later, he worked for a bakery in Whitehall.
 
In 1949 he moved to Neillsville and began driving truck for Consolidated Freightways and Advanced Express. In 1952 he moved to Whiting, continuing with Advanced Express and retiring in 1979.
 
Following retirement he worked for the Commission on Aging for 11 years.
 
He was a Life member of Disabled American Veterans Chapter 30 of Stevens Point and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8288 at Whitehall. He was also a member of Teamster Union Local 200 of Milwaukee and Local 354 of Stevens Point.
 
Survivors include one son, Larry, Nekoosa; and one brother, Eugene (Mavis), Whitehall.
 
He was also preceded in death by his close friend, Doris Lewallen.

John K. Moen

At the age of 49, John K. Moen, Town of Harrison (Waupaca County), died Monday morning in the Iola Hospital. He had been ill for several months.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Northland Lutheran Church. The Rev. Karel Lunde will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the Voie Funeral Home in Iola.
Mr. Moen was born Feb. 12, 1908, in Harrison, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Ole Moen. He lived in Harrison all of his life, with the exception of his service in World War II. Mr. Moen served overseas for 14 months.

He was never married.

Among his survivors are three sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Ruben Bestul, Town of Helvetia (Waupaca County); Mrs. Alvin Rierson, Town of Iola {Waupaca County); Mrs. Alvin Bestul, Wisconsin Rapids, and Oscar and Ted Moen, Harrison.

John Rivrud

John Rivrud, 71, a resident of the town of Harrison, Waupaca county, since 1906, died at his home Sunday at 11 p. m. He had been in ill health for eight years.

Funeral services for Mr. Rivrud, a former assessor of the town of Harrison, will be held Thursday at 2 p. m. at the Northland Lutheran church, with Rev. H. P. Walker officiating. Burial will take place in
the parish cemetery.

Friends may call at the Swenson funeral home, Iola.

Mr. Rivrud was born in Norway April 16, 1883, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Hans Rivrud, and came to this country in July, 1903. He settled first in North Dakota and came to the town of Harrison in 1906.

He was married to the former Anlaug Kittleson on Nov. 12, 1907.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Oscar, Milwaukee, and Herman and Clarence, Chicago; two daughters, Mrs. Irving Melum, town of New Hope, and Mrs. Gilman Peterson, town of Harrison, and two brothers and two sisters in Norway.

John Rivrud

Rites For Mr. Rivrud

Rev. H. P. Walker officiated at services at the Northland Lutheran church recently for John Rivrud, a resident of the town of Harrison, Waupaca county.

Burial followed in the parish cemetery.

Pallbearers were Carl Matson, Lewis Loken, Guy Lee, Harris Isaacson, Andrew Olsen and Ole Langdok.

During the service, Gladys Moen sang hymns in English and Norwegian. Attending the services from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Rivrud and daughter, Lois, Milwaukee; Herman and Clarence Rivrud, Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. Herman Moe and Mrs. Harry Landsborough, Park River, N. D.; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Ellefson, Dallas, Wis., and Lloyd Husett, Barron.
