Clarissa Gullickson

DROWNED AT IOLA.
Niece of G. A. Gullikson Breaks
Through Ice and Drowns.

G. A. Gullikson of this city received a telephone message from Iola  Sunday at about 12:30 o'clock, saying that his niece, Clarissa  Gullikson, aged twelve years, daughter of Mrs. Nellie Gullikson, had  been drowned at that place a short, time before.  According to the particulars received here the little girl was skating  on a pond within the village, in company with the young son of Knute Thompson, when they broke through. Their cries were heard by George  Claus and Halbert Swenson, the latter an uncle of the girl, and they  went to their rescue. When they were finally taken out of the pond,  Clarissa was dead and the boy nearly so. However, by quick and  efficient work the latter was revived and now feels little the worse for his harrowing experience. It is said that Mr. Claus, one of those  who went to the assistance of the children, himself had a narrow escape  from drowning.

Besides her mother, little Clarissa is survived by three brothers,  Arnold, Lyle and Sidney, all older than she. The funeral will be held   from the Norwegian Lutheran church at Iola Wednesday afternoon,  Rev. Matheson officiating.
