Edwin Skowen
Elmore
Edwin Skowen, 90, Iola, a town of Amherst native and father of a Rosholt
woman, died Sunday, March 29, 2009, at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Our Savior's
Lutheran Church in Iola, with the Rev. Dennis Olson officiating. Burial
will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be at the Voie Funeral Home in Iola from4 to 8 p.m.
Tuesday.
Mr. Skowen was born Nov. 15, 1918, in the town of Amherst, a son of the
late Adolph and Elise (Gunderson) Skowen.
He was married to Donna Voie on May 4, 1946, in Scandinavia.
He was a self-employed milk hauler for 30 years.
He had also driven truck for the Waupaca Foundry, Anthony Farms and the
Diamond Z Ranch.
He had been a member of the Iola Volunteer Fire and Ambulance Service
for 20 years. He had served on the Iola Village Board and the Our
Savior's Lutheran Church Board.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, David (Jane), Sun Prairie, and
Wayne (Marie), Iola; one daughter, Sheri (Mike) Zdroik, Rosholt; one
brother, Leland (Leone), Appleton; eight grandchildren; nine
great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
He was also preceded in death by one son, Keith; one brother, Harmon;
three sisters, Lucille Rasmussen, Eleanor Townsend and Dagny Skowen; and
one grandson.

Ronald E. Olson
Ronald E. Olson, 74, Iola, died Monday, April 6, 2009, at Appleton Medical
Center in Appleton.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Our Savior Lutheran
Church in Iola, with the Rev. Dennis Olson officiating. Interment will be
in the Our Savior Lutheran Cemetery in the town of Scandinavia in Waupaca
County.
Visitation will be held at Voie Funeral Home in Iola from 4 to 7 p.m.
Thursday and at the church from 9:30 a.m. Friday until the service.
Mr. Olson was born Oct. 24, 1934, in the town of Scandinavia in Waupaca
County, a son of the late Ludvig C. and Frieda (Erickson) Olson. He
graduated from Iola High School in 1952.
He was married to Phyllis Joan Nerdahl on Nov. 12, 1955, at Northland
Lutheran Church.
He worked as a salesman for various millwork companies in the Fox Valley.
He later became a technician for Midwest Breeders and retired after 20
years of service.
He was an avid trapshooter.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Dr. Jeffrey (Ann), Mequon, and Mark
(Jacci), Waupaca; four grandchildren, Katelyn (fiancée Aaron Bennett)
Olson, Mosinee, Jonathan Olson and Lauren Olson, both Mequon, and Chelsea
Olson, Waupaca.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Marvin and Laverne.

Christine F. Bloom
Christine F. Bloom, 50, Iola, a former Brillion and Appleton resident,
died Monday, May 25, 2009, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Our Savior's
Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Dennis Olson officiating. Interment will be
in Our Savior's Lutheran Cemetery in the town of Scandinavia in Waupaca
County.
Visitation will be at Voie Funeral Home in Iola from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday
and at the church from 10 a.m. Thursday until the service.

Mrs. Bloom was born Oct. 12, 1958, in Brillion, a daughter of the late
Hugo and Jeanette (Schwanke) Woldt. She was a 1977 graduate of Brillion
High School.
She was married to Brian Bloom on May 18, 1981, in Brillion.
She worked for Presto Products, Azco Hennes and Central Wisconsin Electric
Cooperative and was a rural postal carrier in Iola.
She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Iola.
Survivors include her husband, Brian, Iola; two children, Tyler and
Lindsey Bloom, both at home; her twin sister, Carol Geise, Appleton; two
brothers, Daryl (Amy) Woldt and Tim Woldt, both of Brillion; nieces; and
nephews.

Matthew S. 'Chooch' Lien
Matthew S. "Chooch" Lien, 22, Iola, died Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2010, at his
residence.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Faith Community
Church in Waupaca, with the Rev. Paul Stevens and the Rev. Gary Strike
officiating. Interment will be in Our Savior's Lutheran Cemetery in the
town of Scandinavia in Waupaca County.
Visitation will be at Voie Funeral Home in Iola from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday
and at the church from 9:30 a.m. Saturday until the service.

Mr. Lien was born Nov. 16, 1987, in Stevens Point, a son of Scott Lien and
Kate (Stevenson) Brunner.
He worked as a laborer for Wellers Salvage in Galloway.
Survivors include his mother, Kate (Kerry) Brunner, Stevens Point; his
father, Scott Lien, Iola; one sister, Megan (Shane) Heindl, Iola; his
grandmother, Arlene Lien, Iola; two stepbrothers, Daniel and Michael
Brunner, both of Madison; and one stepsister, Kimberley Brunner,
Manitowoc.

Clarice J. Adams
Clarice J. Adams, 82, 1709 Illinois Ave., Stevens Point, a retired Stevens
Point area school teacher, died Monday, Jan. 4, 2010, at St. Michael's
Hospital.
A celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Boston Funeral
Home, with the Rev. Steven D. Olson officiating. Burial will be in Our
Savior's Lutheran Cemetery in Iola.
Visitation will be at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and again
from 9 a.m. Friday until the service.
Memorials may be made to the family in lieu of flowers.

Mrs. Adams was born April 13, 1927, in Luxemburg, Wis., a daughter of the
late James and Gladys (Jenson) Bergen. She grew up in Stevens Point and
attended local elementary schools. She graduated from P.J. Jacob High
School in 1944.
She continued her education and earned a bachelor of arts degree in
psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW-Madison) in 1948.
While attending the UW Madison, she helped to organize the first student
union at the university. She later received a teaching degree from Midland
Lutheran College in Nebraska.
She returned to Stevens Point and earned a master's degree in education
from UW-Stevens Point in 1974.
In her earlier years, she worked at Dayton Department Store and worked
into middle management. She later became the training director at Brandeis
Department Store in Omaha, Neb.
After returning to Stevens Point, she worked for the elementary schools as
a special education teacher.
An accomplished pianist, she was a supporter of the Central Wisconsin
Symphony.
She was a member of Phi Delta Kappa and Chi Omega. She was also a member
of the Sons of Norway, the Mad Hatters and Trinity Lutheran Church.
Survivors include four children, Roger (Toni) Adams, Waukesha, Reese
(John) Aarthun, Wausau, Chris (Tim) Clement, Scottsdale, Ariz., and Jim
Adams, Madison; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one
cousin, Rodney (Evelyn) Jenson.

Lois F. Myhra
Lois Florence (Zimmermann) Myhra, 85, Iola, died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2007, of
congestive heart failure at Riverside Medical Center in Waupaca.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Our Savior Lutheran
Church in Iola, with the Rev. Dennis Olson officiating. Interment will be
in Our Savior Lutheran Cemetery in Iola.
Visitation will be held at the Voie Funeral Home in Iola from 4 to 8 p.m.
Thursday.
Mrs. Myhra was born July 26, 1922, in Milwaukee, a daughter of the late
Edward and Irma (Bartels) Zimmermann. She graduated in 1940 from Girl's
Tech in Milwaukee.
She was employed as a shipping clerk at Milwaukee Seal & Label after high
school.
She joined the U.S. Army Air Corps from December 1943 through February
1946. During World War II, as a corporal in the Women's Air Corps, she
served as a key punch operator in New Guinea and the Philippines. Her
medals included Philippine Liberation, America and Pacific Campaign, Good
Conduct and Victory.
She was married to Palmer Myhra on May 17, 1947, at Oklahoma Avenue
Lutheran Church in Milwaukee.
They rented a farm near Rosholt until they purchased a dairy farm in the
town of Iola in Waupaca County in 1951. They raised registered Guernseys
for more than 40 years.
She worked in the advertising department at Krause Publications in Iola
for 12 years. She later worked as a nursing assistant for 10 years at the
Wisconsin Veteran's Home in King.
She and her husband were general leaders of the Trout Creek Beavers 4-H
Club for more than 20 years. They were also members of the Waupaca County
Republican Party and Our Savior's Lutheran Church of Iola. She taught
Sunday School and Bible School for many years, and was a member of the
Esther Circle.
She was active in the Iola-Scandinavia PTA and Trout Creek Extension
Homemakers group for many years.
She was a member of the Iola-Scandinavia Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include her husband; five daughters, Kathleen (David) Olson, Red
Wing, Minn., Nancy (Stan) Smith, Wausau; Jane Myhra, Iola, Judy (John)
Smith, Oshkosh, and Terri Myhra, Appleton; one sister, Audrey Zimmer
Strong, Laona; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
She was also preceded in death by one infant daughter, Kathy; one infant
son, John; and one brother, Robert Zimmermann.

Palmer Otto Myhra
Palmer Otto Myhra, 87, Iola, a town of Amherst native and author, died
Monday, Sept. 28, 2009, at Iola Living Assistance in Iola.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Our Savior's Lutheran
Church in Iola, with the Rev. Dennis Olson officiating. Interment will be
in Our Savior's Lutheran Cemetery in Iola.
Visitation will be at the Voie Funeral Home in Iola from 4 to 8 p.m.
Thursday.

Mr. Myhra was born Dec. 19, 1921, in the town of Amherst, a son of the
late Otto and Amanda Myhra. He graduated in 1940 from Rosholt High School
in Rosholt.
He was with the Civilian Conservation Corps, working at Rib Mountain from
1940 to 1941. He worked at Milwaukee Grid Iron Works in Milwaukee from
1941 to 1942.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1945. During World War
II, he served in England, the Soviet Union and Ukraine with the 8th Air
Force. His medals included: Army Good Conduct and Efficiency; American
Campaign; European, African, Middle Eastern Campaign, entitled to four
campaign starts; Asiatic Pacific Campaign; WWII Victory; USSR Operation
Frantic 50th Anniversary Commemoration medal 1994, awarded to surviving
American veterans of the operation; and 8th Air Force Souvenir Wings,
unofficial.
When the war ended, he attended the University of Wisconsin College of
Agriculture in Madison for two years, graduating from the Ag Short Course
in 1947, and began farming.
He was married to Lois Zimmermann on May 17, 1947, at Oklahoma Avenue
Lutheran Church in Milwaukee. She died on Oct. 9, 2007.
They rented a farm near Rosholt until they purchased a dairy farm in the
town of Iola in Waupaca County in 1951. They raised registered Guernseys
for more than 40 years and sold certified seed oats.
He wrote articles, stories and poems for many years, several of which were
published in magazines and newspapers. In his last decade of life, he
authored three books. His first book, "Zeb's Water," a historical novel
set in the mid-1850s; his second book, "A Country Boy's Depression," is
the story of him growing up during the Depression years; and a third book,
"A Frantic Saga," is about his wartime experience during a secret mission
to the Ukraine. His fourth book, "Century Farms," will be published soon,
highlighting 100- to 150-year-old farms in central Wisconsin.
He and his wife were general leaders of the Trout Creek Beavers 4-H Club
for more than 20 years. They were members of the Iola-Scandinavia Veterans
of Foreign Wars Post 9748, the Waupaca County Republican Party and Our
Savior's Lutheran Church of Iola.
He served on the Iola-Scandinavia School Board for 12 years, 10 as clerk.
He was a member of the American Guernsey Cattle Club, Wisconsin Guernsey
Association, Waupaca County Farm Bureau, Sons of Norway and the Wisconsin
Trappers Association.
Survivors include five daughters, Kathleen (David) Olson, Red Wing, Minn.,
Nancy (Stan) Smith, Wausau, Jane Myhra, Iola, Judy (John) Smith, Oshkosh,
and Terri Myhra, Appleton; three brothers, Clarence, Menominee Falls,
Archie (Delores), Wheatland, Calif., and Kenneth (Kyoko), Oakland, Calif.;
seven grandchildren; and two great-grandsons.
He was also preceded in death by one infant daughter, Kathy; one infant
son, John; and one brother, Norman.

Myrtle V. Larson
Myrtle V. (Mrs. Lester) Larson, 98, Iola, a former nurse in Stevens Point,
died Saturday, June 6, 2009 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church
in Iola, with the Rev. Dennis Olson officiating. Burial will be in Our
Savior's Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the church from 10 a.m. Thursday until the services.

Mrs. Larson was born June 11, 1910, in Waupaca, a daughter of the late
Martin and Hilda (Johnson) Peterson. She graduated from Waupaca High
School in 1928.
In 1932 she graduated from the Fairview Hospital School of Nursing in
Minneapolis, Minn.
She was employed as a nurse at hospitals in Waupaca, Iola and Stevens
Point. She also was a private nurse for several families in Stevens Point
before her retirement.
She was married to Lester Larson on May 25, 1946, in Dubuque, Iowa.
They resided in Iola until the Green Bay Western Railroad transferred him
to Kewaunee, where he continued to work as a depot agent. They returned to
Iola after 20 years and retired in their home on State Street.
She was a member of the Eastern Star, Iola Historical Society, Sons of
Norway and the Women's Division of the Democratic Party.
Survivors include one sister, Ellen Bammel, Waupaca; one niece, Patricia
(Jim) Watkins, Colorado; three nephews, Paul (Cindy) Bammel Jr., Eau
Claire, amd Lee Nelson and Robert (Carol) Lashua, both of Iola.

Maren Thulien
Mrs. Maren Thulien, 95, Iola, died Tuesday morning at the Iola Hospital
after a brief illness.
A native of
Norway, she had lived in the Iola area most of her life.
Funeral
services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church,
Iola, with the Rev. Henry A. Lease officiating. Burial will take place in
the parish cemetery.
Friends may
call at the Voie Funeral Home, Iola, after 3 p.m. Thursday.
Mrs.
Thulien was born April I8, 1882, in Arendal, Norway, a daughter of the
late Mr. and Mrs. Nels Pederson. She came to the United States when she
was 20, settling in the Iola area.
She was married June 23, 1914, at Iola to Oscar Thulien. Her
husband, a farmer, died in 1934.
Surviving
are a son, Omer, Janesville; a daughter, Mrs. Norman (Anita) Ursin, Iola;
seven grandchildren; and four greatgrandchildren.
Three
sisters preceded her in death.

Mrs. Hans (Edna) Nelson
Mrs. Hans (Edna) Nelson, 71, Route 1, Scandinavia, died this morning at
Riverview Nursing Home, Waupaca, following a lengthy illness.
Funeral
services will be held 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Scandinavia Lutheran Church.
The Rev. Arthur J. Reesnes will officiate. Burial will be in the parish
cemetery.
Friends may
call after 3 p.m. Monday at the Voie Funeral Home, Iola.
Mrs. Nelson
was born Nov. 30, 1905, in the Town of St. Lawrence, Waupaca County, a
daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Alfred C. Johnson. She was a lifelong
resident of the Scandinavia area. She married Hans Nelson on July 12,
1937, in Menominee, he survives.
Also
surviving are three sons, Kenneth, Mosinee, Roger, Waupaca, and Paul,
Scandinavia; two daughters, Mrs. Michael (Joan) Springer, Franklin, and
Mrs. Lloyd (Carol) Matheson, Iowa City, Iowa; one sister, Mrs. Paul
(Stella) Peterson, Waupaca; and 16 grandchildren.
Two
brothers and one sister preceded her in death.

Mrs. Nettie Aanstad
Mrs. Nettie Aanstad, 88, a resident of the Iola area all of her life, died
Friday morning at the Iola Hospital. She had been a resident of the Iola
Nursing Home since 1973.
She was
born on Feb. 2, 1889, in the Town of St. Lawrence, Waupaca County, a
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ole Knutson. She was married to Melvin Aanstad in
the Town of Helvetia, Waupaca County, on Dec. 30, 1915, and they farmed in
the rural Iola area for many years. Mr. Aanstad died on March 12, 1966.
She is
survived by two brothers Adolph Knutson Platteville, and Maynard Knutson,
Iola, three sisters, Mrs. Serena Johnson, at the Iola Nursing Home, and
Mrs. Ella Olson and Mrs. Mabel Lonnevik, both of River Pines Community
Health Center.
Funeral
services will be held on Monday at l:30 p m. at Our Savior s Lutheran
Church at Iola with the Rev. Henry A. Lease officiating. Burial will he
made in the parish cemetery.
Friends may
call at the Voie Funeral Home at Iola after 3 p m. on Sunday.

Lawrence T. Louison
Lawrence T. Louison, 89, Iola, died Friday, Aug. 8, 2003, at Iola Nursing
Home.
Funeral services were held today at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Iola.
Burial was in the parish cemetery.
Born Dec. 20, 1913, in the town of Amherst, he was a son of the late
Hemmie and Steena (Olson) Louison.
His marriage to Ruth Rice took place on June 18, 1935, in the town of
Amherst. She died June 24, 2000.
He was a dairy farmer for more than 60 years in the Waupaca County town of
Helvetia.
Survivors include four sons, Larry (Pat) Louison, Dale (Roberta) Louison,
Don (Pat) Louison, and Keith Louison, all of Iola; and 10 grandchildren,
three stepgrandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and nine stepgreat-grandchildren.

John L. Madson
John L. Madson, 72, Iola, died Monday, Nov. 24, 2003, at St. Michael's
Hospital in Stevens Point.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Our Savior's Lutheran
Church in Iola. Burial will be in Our Savior's Lutheran Cemetery in Iola.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Voie Funeral Home in
Iola.
He was born Sept. 21, 1931, in Iola, to the late Charles and Clara (Langdok)
Madson.
John was married to Dorothy Nowak on April 2, 1960, in Waupaca. She
survives.
He was a rural mail carrier for the Iola Post Office for 30 years.
John was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Madson of Iola one daughter, Holly
Madson of Hartford two sons, Steve (Marie) Madson of Iola and Mark (Terri)
Madson of Iola one sister, Ilene (Carl) Anderson of Neenah and five
grandchildren.
