Betty J Phillips

Betty J. Phillips, 70, Plainfield, died Saturday, Dec. 31, 2005, at the Crystal River Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Waupaca.

Services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Leikness & Stahl Funeral Home in Plainfield, with the Rev. Larry G. Gross officiating. Burial will be in Plainfield Village Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 4 p.m. Thursday until the services.

Mrs. Phillips was born Aug. 20, 1925, in Blytheville, Ark., a daughter of the late Thomas and Fannie (Callen) Baker. She was married to Gene H. Phillips on Feb. 1, 1954, in Illinois.

Survivors include her husband; four sons, Rickey (Alice), Randy (Julie), Ronald Joe (Lori) and Russell, all of Plainfield; three brothers, James (Pam) Baker and Thomas Baker, both of Illinois, and Odell Baker, Tennessee; two sisters, Mildred Baker, Georgia, and Jesse Adams, Virginia; six grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
 
She was also preceded in death by one sister, Essie Studdards.

Roger C Phillips

Roger C. Phillips, 80, Plainfield, died Saturday, Sept. 2, 2006, at Wild Rose Manor in Wild Rose.
 
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Gasperic Funeral Home in Plainfield, with Pastoral Associate Robert Precourt officiating. Burial will be in the Plainfield Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 10 a.m. Thursday until the services.
 
Mr. Phillips was born Sept. 2, 1926, in Norwood Park, Ill., a son of the late Irving and Zaida (Corwin) Phillips. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was married to Eleanor Czlapinski on Oct. 10, 1953, in Arlington Heights, Ill. He was employed at Plainfield Trucking for 18 years, retiring in 1991.
 
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Roger (Marilyn), Gary (Marsha) and Carl (Jenny); three daughters, Trina (Donald) Wilson, Lu (Alnin) Wilson, and Tresa (Mike) Ludtke; three brothers, Irving (Zola), Gene and Burt (Sharon); 14 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

David E. Senft Jr.

David E. Senft Jr., 14, rural Bancroft, died Wednesday, March 15, 2006, at University Hospitals in Madison as the result of injuries suffered in a school bus accident.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Paul Catholic Church in Plainfield. Burial will be in the Plainfield Village Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the Tri-County High School gymnasium from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, with a parish prayer service to follow at 6 p.m. A memorial scholarship has been established in his name in lieu of flowers. Leikness and Stahl Funeral Home in Plainfield is assisting the family with arrangements.

David was born Sept. 29, 1991, in Stevens Point, a son of David and Julie (Bradford) Senft Sr. He was in the eighth grade at Tri-County Middle School. He was active in Plainfield Little League.  He was a member of S.A.D.D. and St. Paul Catholic Church, Plainfield. He was an avid World War II aviation enthusiast.
 
Survivors include his parents, David and Julie Senft, Bancroft; one brother, Robby, at home; his maternal grandmother, Elayne Bradford, Plainfield; and his paternal grandparents, Richard and Kathy Senft, Bancroft.

Minnie Hacker Hocking

Minnie R. Hocking, 89, Bancroft, died Tuesday, March 28, 2006, at the Stevens Point Care Center in Whiting.

Service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Gasperic Funeral Home in Plainfield, with the Rev. Richard Fite officiating. Burial will be in the Plainfield Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the funeral home from 11 a.m. Saturday until the service.

Mrs. Hocking was born Dec. 4, 1916, in Chicago, Ill., a daughter of the late Adolph and Mary (Herman) Hacker. She was married to Phlauris Hocking on May 24, 1941, in Chicago, Ill.

Survivors include her husband; three sons, Roy, Wisconsin Rapids, Richard, Rosholt, and Raymond (Cheryl), Amherst; two daughters, Margaret Hocking, Stevens Point, and Linda (Dale) McLarnan, Almond; two brothers, Steve (Noreen) Hacker, Whitewater, and Donald Hacker, Aurora, Ill.; three sisters, Theresa Becker, Batavia, Ill., Loraine Hinrichs, Westmont, Ill., and Rose Carhoun, Houghton, Mich.; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was also preceded in death by three brothers, and two sisters.

Erna (Indermuehle) Wagner

Erna Wagner, 95, Bokeelia, Fla., a Plainfield native, died Wednesday, March 29, 2006, at Ripon Medical Center in Ripon.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home in Ripon, with the Rev. Paul Nulton officiating. Inurnment will be in Plainfield Cemetery in the town of Plainfield in Waushara County.

Visitation will be at the funeral home from 1 p.m. Saturday until the services. A memorial has been established. Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, Ripon, is assisting the family. Condolences may be offered at www.butzinmarchant.com.

Mrs. Wagner was born May 19, 1910, in Plainfield, a daughter of the late John and Clara (Gerwing) Indermuehle. She graduated as a registered nurse from Milwaukee General Hospital in 1931. She was married to Charlie Wagner on Nov. 26, 1933, in Plainfield. She worked at the Wild Rose Hospital and as a private duty nurse at various hospitals. She was a member of Pine Island United Methodist Church in Bokeelia, Fla.

Survivors include one daughter, Charlotte (Warren) Sherman, Ripon; one brother, Raymond Indermuehle, Kenniwick, Wash.; one sister-in-law, Gladys Indermuehle, Plainfield; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by one sister and two brothers.

John W. Wandrey

John W. Wandrey, 62, Stevens Point, a retired Wisconsin Public Service Corp. manager and civic leader, died Saturday, May 13, 2006, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital in Wausau.
 
Services will be at noon Wednesday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Plover, with the Rev. Al Moen officiating. Burial will be held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Wautoma Union Cemetery in Wautoma.
 
Visitation will be at the church from 9 a.m. Wednesday until the services. A memorial will be established at a later date in lieu of flowers. Leikness Funeral Home in Wautoma is assisting the family with arrangements. Condolences may be offered at www.wautomafuneralhome.com.
 
Mr. Wandrey was born Nov. 16, 1943, in the town of Dakota in Waushara County, a son of the late Chester and Margaret (Blader) Wandrey. He was married to Phyllis M. Fenner on Aug. 22, 1964, at Peace Lutheran Church in Wautoma.
 
He graduated from Wautoma High School and the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. He was employed by Wisconsin Public Service Corp. from 1967 until he retired in 2001 while managing the Plover office. He was an active member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Plover. He was a member of several public groups, serving on the Mid-State Technical College Board, the Stevens Point Board of Water and Sewer Commissioners and the Portage County Business Council.
 
Survivors include his wife; one son, Steve (Tabatha), Waupaca; one daughter, Karen Komasa, Stevens Point; one brother, Donald (Barbara) Wandrey, Gillette; two sisters, Nancy (Norman) Schubert, Hancock, and Jean (David) Kruse, Mosinee; and four grandchildren.
 
He was also preceded in death by one brother, Robert.

Michael Leitenberger

Michael Leitenberger, 68, Plover, died Wednesday, June 7, 2006, at his home.
 
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the New Life Assembly of God Church in Plainfield, with the Rev. Dan Winkelman officiating. Interment will be in the Hancock Cemetery in Hancock.
 
Visitation will be at the church from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Roseberry's Funeral Home in Friendship is assisting the family. Online condolences may be offered at www.roseberrys.com.
 
Mr. Leitenberger was born July 19, 1937, in Yugoslavia, a son of the late Johann and Eva (Heil) Leitenberger. He and his family moved to the United States in May 1956 to reunite with family members. He was married to Elma Ann Droste on May 14, 1960, in Dubuque, Iowa. She preceded him in death.
 
He worked for Federal Marine Terminals as an overhead crane operator in Chicago, Ill.

He and his family moved to Coloma in 1977. He recently moved to Plover to be close to his family. Survivors include one daughter, Lynn (Greg) Gear, Plover; one son, Darrel (Becky), Plainfield; three grandchildren, Tabitha (Josh) Collins, Buckeye, Ariz., John (Tiffany) Schurk, Stevens Point, and
Calvin Brownlow, Plainfield; and three great-grandchildren.
 
He was also preceded in death by brothers and sisters.

Alfred A. Sustins

Alfred A. Sustins, a well known machinist in Stevens Point for many years, died Thursday afternoon at 1:15 o'clock at his home at 254 North First street.

Mr., Sustins had been in ill health since last January and in February his condition became worse. He had been confined to bed most of the time since February.

He was born in London, England, on September 3, 1855, and came to this country with his parents, William and Sarah Sustins, in February. 1872, The family located at Waupaca, which was the family home for many years. Mr. Sustins' marriage to Miss Carrie Curtis of Hancock took place there on October 6, 1878. Mr. Sustins came to Stevens Point on June 10, 1879, to learn the machinist trade and entered the employ of the John Rice Brothers at their machine shop. Mrs. Sustins joined him in September of the same year and the couple made their home here since. For the past 25 years Mr. Sustins had conducted his own shop on the corner of North Third and Portage streets.

Mr. Sustins was a member of Evergreen lodge No. 93, F. and A. M., and was a past master of the lodge. He was a member of Arbutus chapter No 52, Order of Eastern Star, serving as its worthy patron for many years.

Surviving are his wife, three daughters, Mrs. A. L. James of Manawa, Mrs. Arthur A. Hetzel, Viertel addition, and Mrs. William Karsten, 736 Water street: a son, Walter O. Sustins of Saginaw, Michigan; a brother, Arthur Lovell, Sr,, of Webster Groves, Missouri, and four grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Monday evening at 1:30 o'clock at the Boston funeral home. A candle light service will be conducted by the Masonic lodge and the body will then be placed in the receiving vault to await burial in the Hancock cemetery in the spring. Members of the Eastern Star will attend the funeral in a group. This body will be at thee funeral home until after the services.

Funeral of Mr. Sustins
A large number of Masons and Eastern Star members belonging to Evergreen lodge No. 93 and Arbutus chapter No. 52 attended funeral services in a body Monday evening at 7:30 o'clock at the Boston funeral home for Alfred A. Sustins, who died Thursday afternoon at his home at First and Portage streets.

Rev. Robert Gordon of the Baptist church officiated after which the Masonic ritualistic service was conducted by Wilfred Hetzer, worshipful master of Evergreen lodge.

During the services Mrs. Harry Ewald and Mrs. Robert Gordon, accompanied by Edward Plank pang "Abide With Me" and "No Night There."

Relatives and friends from out of town who came for the funeral .included Mr. Sustin's son, Walter O. Sustin, of Saginaw, Michigan; Mr. and Mrs. William Pelletier of Rhinelander; Mrs. Charles Carman of Minocqua; Mrs. E. B. Jones and son. Clifford, Mrs. Hannah Hales and Mrs. Warren Wright of Hancock and Mr. and Mrs. A. L. James and son, Wilber, of Manawa. Mrs. James is a daughter and Mrs. Pelleticr and Mrs. Carman are nieces of Mr. Sustins.

Mrs. Alfred A. Sustins (Carrie Celia Curtis)

Funeral services for Mrs. Carrie Sustins, age 61, of 204 North First street, widow of Fred A. Sustins, for many years owner and operator of a machine shop here, who died Tuesday afternoon, will be held Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Rosenow funeral home. Eastern Star ritualistic services will be conducted and burial will take place in a Hancock cemetery beside her husband. The body is at the funeral home.

Mrs. Sustins' death occurred at 1:15 o'clock at St. Michael's hospital which she entered on August 11. She became ill on August 9 and was removed to the hospital where she underwent an operation for a ruptured appendix.

Born on June 27, 1859, at Fairwater, Wisconsin, Mrs. Sustins was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Walter Curtis. Her maiden name was Carrie Celia Curtis. The family moved to Wautoma during' her childhood and later to Hancock.

Her marriage to Mr. Sustins of Stevens Point took place an October 6, 1878. She came to Stevens Point as a bride and shortly afterward the couple purchased the present home on North First street where they lived the rest of their lives, Mr. Sustins, who died on December 5, 1935, was a machinist by trade and was employed in that capacity at the Rice foundry and later by the Stevens Point Lighting company until establishing his own business at 241 North Third street, which he operated for many years.

Mrs. Sustins was a member of Arbutus chapter No, 62 of the Eastern Star. She joined the organization about 40 years ago.

Surviving are four children, Mrs. A. L. James of Manawa, Walter Sustins of Saginaw, Michigan, Mrs. A. A. Hetzel of Park Ridge and Mrs. W. F. Karsten, 736 Water street, four grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Funeral of Mrs. Sustins
Funeral services for Mrs. Carrie Sustins, 254 North First street, a pioneer Stevens Point resident, who died Tuesday afternoon, were held Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Rosenow funeral home. Rev. Arthur Johnson officiated and Eastern Star ritualistic service was conducted. Burial took place In the Hancock cemetery.

"Jesus Savior Pilot Me" and "Abide With Me" were sung by Mrs. Harry Ewald and Mrs. Martin Booth. They were accompanied by Mrs. L. S. Dietrich.
Pallbearers were Glen E. Braatz, Roy J. Carver, A. R. Menzel, Arthur Sherman, Burton R. Pierce and Ben W. Degneau. The flowers were carried by Miss Theresa Vrobel, Miss Clara Moesch, Mrs. A. N. Butler, Mrs. Carl Callows and Mrs. William Hanson.

Those from out of town who were here included Walter Sustins of Saginaw, Michigan, Mr. and Mrs. A. L. James and son, Wilbur, of Manawa, Mr. and Mrs. Warren Wright and Mrs. Hannah Hales of Hancock, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Keffner of Waupaca and Mr., and Mrs. C. B. Carman of Minocqua. Mrs. James had been here for the past three weeks and was with her mother during her illness and at the time of her death.

Mrs. Herman Dubke (Mary Larson)

Word has been received at Plainfield of the death at Milwaukee on Friday of Mrs. Mary Dubke, a former Plainfield resident. She was 91 years old.

Mrs. Dubke had been residing for the past 30 years with her daughter. Mrs. Karen Rodock, at Milwaukee.

The former Mary Larson was born in Denmark, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Larson, and came with her parents to Blaine in 1869, She spent the remainder of her girlhood there and lived in Plainfield for about 40 years afterward. Her husband, Herman Dubke, preceded her in death.

Surviving are five sons, Henry, Beloit, Loral, Milwaukee, Joe, Bancroft, Fred, Plainfield. and Arthur, Racine; her daughter, Mrs. Rodock, three grandchildren and one great grandchild. Two brothers and on* sister preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be at 10 o'clock Sunday morning at Milwaukee and the body will be removed to Plainfield afterward for burial.

Mrs. Dubke's Funeral
Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Dubke, formerly of Plainfield, who died last Friday at Milwaukee, were held at the Froemming-Boetcher funeral home at Milwaukee Monday morning at 10 o'clock. Rev. William E. Kuhnle, pastor of the Garfield Avenue Baptist church, Milwaukee, officiated, assisted by Rev. Mr. Both, also of Milwaukee
.

During the services, Mrs. Otto M. Atzek sang, "Are There Any Stars in My Crown?" Mrs. Dellamae Gifford accompanied her at the organ.

The pallbearers were Herman Gross, Emil Gross, Rudolph Stender, Ed Turner, Ira Turner and Franklin Matzek,

The body was removed to
Plainfield afterward, where committal services were conducted at graveside in the Plainfield cemetery by Rev. Gordon Dalton, pastor of the Wisconsin Rapids Baptist church.

Arthur Dubke

Arthur Dubke, 73, Wisconsin Rapids, a Plainfield resident most of his life, died at his home Thursday.

His funeral will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the Goult-Patterson-Hardell Funeral Chapel. Plainfield, with the Rev. Mary Murray Sherman of the Plainfield Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Plainfield Cemetery, with military rites by the Plainfield American Legion Post

Friends may call at the funeral chapel from 10:30 a.m. Saturday until the time of the service.

Mr. Dubke was born May 13, 1898, in Plainfield, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Herman Dubke. A World War 1 veteran, he was employed as a mason and machinist.

Surviving are his wife, the former Lillian Pierce; two brothers, Henry, Beloit, and Fred, Plainfield; and a sister, Mrs. Karen Rodack, Milwaukee.

Harold A. (Bud) Mau

Harold A. "Bud" Mau, 80, Plainfield, father of an Almond woman, died Tuesday, July 11, 2006, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Leikness & Stahl Funeral Home in Plainfield. Burial will be in the Plainfield Village Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 1 p.m. Saturday until the services.
 
Mr. Mau was born Aug. 1, 1925, in Milwaukee, a son of the late Arthur and Marie (Shank) Mau. He was married to Betty J. Stainbrook on Feb. 5, 1942, in Milwaukee. He served in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Almond.
 
Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Judy (Chuck) Crawford, Almond, Carol (special friend, Gene Jorgenson) Scantlin, Montello, Janice (Pat) Gustafson, Minnesota, and Karen McClure, Oklahoma; three sons, Allen (Toni), Minnesota, Alvin (Margaret), Westfield, and Dave (Catherine), Plainfield; 16 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Melvin Keith Tubbs

Death of Child
Melvin Tubbs, age five years, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Tubbs of Plainfield, Route 3, died at St. Michael's hospital at 3:45 o'clock this morning. The child was admitted to the hospital Thursday morning in serious condition, to receive care for pneumonia. The body has been taken to Plainfield

Funeral of Child !
Funeral services for Melvin Keith Tubbs, five-year-son of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard B. Tubbs, of Lone Pine, town of Almond, who died last Friday morning at 3:40 o'clock at St. Michael's hospital, were held Sunday afternoon at 1 o'clock. A prayer was conducted at the family home, followed by services at the Goult funeral home at Plainfield, Rev. C. Paulson officiated and burial took place in the Plainfield cemetery.

The pallbearers were Glen Martin, Dale Wittman, Erwin Bassler, Robert Bassler, Roger Waterman and Preston Webster. The flowers were carried by Ula Wittman, Virginia Waterman, Marilyn Rothermel and Elizabeth Waterman. Special music was rendered during the services by Rev. and Mrs. Paulson. The child had been ill for 12 days and his death was caused from pneumonia. He was born on July 26, 1931. Surviving are his parents and nine brothers and sisters, Buel, Harold, Adrial, Clifford, Maxine, Colleen, Kathleen, Arleen and Beverly.

Relatives and friends from away who attended the funeral included Mr. and Mrs. Frank Scott of Neenah; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Miltimore and Mrs. and Mrs. Arthur Ferbert and family of Wisconsin Rapids; Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Miltimore and Mrs. Everett Burhite of Nekoosa and Mr. and Mrs. Florian Chilewski of Hancock.

Leonard Tubbs

Leonard Tubbs, 84, Snoqualmie. Wash., a former resident of the Plainfield area, died suddenly Wednesday in the state of Washington, where he had been living for the past 20 years. He had suffered a stroke.

The body will be brought to Plainfield, where funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday at 2 p.m. The Rev. Harold Gray of the Plainfield Methodist Church will officiate at the rites at the Goult - Patterson - Hardell Funeral Home. Burial will be made in the Plainfield Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Monday.

Mr. Tubbs was born at Green Lake on Nov. 16, 1880, a son of Mr. and Mrs. George Tubbs. He lived for some time in the Plainfield area, where he farmed for a time. Later he went to Leeds, S. D.. where he was employed at the Home Stake Mine. After he moved to Washington, he was associated with the Weyerhauser Lumber Co at Snoqualmie Falls, Wash His residence in recent years had been at Snoqualmie

Mr. Tubbs is survived by his wife, the former Blanche Miltimore, whom he married at Plainfield on Aug. 13, 1913. She resides at Plainfield
.

He is further survived by four sons, Buel, Ely, Minn., Harold, Snoqualmie, Adrial, Tacoma, Wash, and Clifford, Plainfield; four daughters, Mrs. Earl Sparks, Snoqualmie Falls, Mrs. Henry Kennedy and Mrs. Beverly Cortinas, both of North Bend, Wash., and Miss Kathleen Tubbs, Plainfield, and by 35 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents, one sister and a son and a daughter.

Mr. Tubbs was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose and he served in the National Guard in World War I.

Mrs. Leonard Tubbs (Blanche Miltimore)

Mrs. Blanche N. Tubbs, 80, of Plainfield, died at 6:10 a.m. today at St. Joseph's Hospital at Marshfield. Ill since February, she had been a patient at the hospital for three weeks.

Funeral services will be held on Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the Goult - Patterson - Hardell Funeral Chapel at Plainfield, with the Rev. Edward Ketcham of the United Methodist Church of Plainfield officiating. Burial will be made in the Plainfield Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral chapel after 4 p.m. .on Sunday.

Mrs. Tubbs, the former Blanche Miltimore, was born in the Town of Plainfield on June 1, 1890, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Miltimore. She was married at Plainfield in 1914 to Leonard Tubbs, and they lived continuously in the Plainfield area. Mr. Tubbs died in May 1965.

Mrs. Tubbs is survived by four sons, Leonard, Ely, Minn., Harold, Snoqualmie, Wash., Adrial, North Bend, Wash., and Clifford, Plainfield; four daughters, Mrs. Emil (Colleen) Sparks, Fall City, Wash., Mrs. Henry (Arlene) Kennedy, North Bend, and Miss Kathleen Tubbs and Mrs. Frank (Beverly) Mitchell, both of Plainfield; 32 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Carl Peterson, Exeland, and two brothers, Virgil Miltimore, Nekoosa, and Robert Miltimore, Exeland.
