From the Hancock News Mrs. Mary Duncan has traded her farm in Coloma to Herbert Bacon for his farm in Deerfield, and Mr. Bacon is moving to his new home. Aug. Matz, of Redgranite, was visiting friends here the first of the week. August is now proprietor of a first-class jewelry store in that thriving village. The home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ploets was gladdened Sunday morning by the safe of arrival of a new daughter. All concerned are doing nicely County Line Notes Miss Zada Pishion closed her school in the Fish district last Friday. Mrs. Phelps and daughter, from Spring Bluff, are keeping house for Oscar Hilton. Born to Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Swenson, a ten-pound boy, last Sunday night. Nelson’s customary smile is now even broader than ever. _____________________________________
________________________________ Henry Edson arrived home last Friday from an extended visit with his brother in Ohio. H. Hirst sold a horse Wednesday to Mrs. Curier, of Oasis. The purchase price we are told was $100. Dr. Lewis, an old-time resident of this place, has returned and is now located at the Commercial Hotel. O.E. Barber arrived home last week Thursday from an extended trip through the western states and southern Canada. Mrs. Peter Johnson desires to thank all who were so kind to her and her family during the illness and death of her husband. Byron Parker and family, of Wautoma, visited relatives in Deerfield this week. They are about to move to Dartford to reside. David
Evans, of the town of Deerfield, fell off a load of furniture while
enroute to this village Tuesday and broke one of his legs above the
knee. Mr. Evans is an old resident of Deerfield and being quite old will
undoubtedly be laid up for some time--Argus “Billy” Hirst, of Wild Rose, is looking after his farm interests here this week. Myron Moore has moved on to C.H. Thomas’ farm near the Bute school house. Miss Alfa Marshall arrived home Friday from Williston, N.Dak., where she has been several months with her sister, Mrs. F. Bartram. Big Flats Lucretia Fagan has returned from Hancock. Jennie Anderson, of New Rome, drove over Sunday with R.L. Whittenberg. Four new names were added to the band of Willing Workers’ at the last meeting. On April 26th the society will meet with Mrs.Albert Stewart and on May 10th with Mrs. H.W. Shipley. Coloma Station Miss Lena Gutsche is visiting Montello this week. Harley Collins is visiting his people here this week. Mrs. Will Miller visited relatives in Westfield Friday. Mrs. Morse, of Chicago, is visiting her sister, Mrs. Dr. Dyer. J.C. Fousch and family have moved on to a small farm near Sheboygan. Miss Clara Bassett, of Hancock, visited friends here Wednesday afternoon. Pure bred White Plymouth Rock eggs can be had at 50¢ for 18 at Mrs. S. Knight’s. The Misses Tena and Lizzie Uher visited Sunday with their parents in South Coloma. ____________________________________
From the Hancock News Coloma and Vicinity A Mr. Tuthill, from Moon, has rented Lona Fuller’s place. Miss Laverne Richmond, of Davis Corners, is visiting old friends in Coloma and Hancock this week. J.W. Smith has gone to Stewartville, Minn. to see his sister, Mrs. Hattie Bonner, and accompany his mother back home A baby daughter, gladdens the home of Ray Ely’s people since August 14th. ____________________________________
From the Hancock News Mr. and Mrs. C.O. Luce arrived home with their little son Tuesday evening from Milwaukee where they went to have the child operated on for appendicitis. On the way down the boy had an attack of pneumonia and while waiting for that to get better his other trouble disappeared, making the operation unnecessary. R.S. Noyes and family left here Monday for their new home in Dexter, Iowa. Mr. Noyes accompanied a car load of household goods, stock and implements. A farewell surprise party was given them Sunday night at the home of their neighbors, Mr. and Mrs. Clark Stilwell, in West Plainfield. Mr. and Mrs. Noyes won many friends during their residence here. All of whom wish them health, wealth and happiness in their new home. Mrs. L.M. Hepburn, of Hancock, was the guest of Plainfield friends Wednesday. Mrs. Hepburn and son Ora expect to go to Chicago next Monday, where they will reside. Their house wil be at 15 Groveland Park. Mrs. Hepburn will be employed in Dr. Oviatt’s office as office girl while Ora will be employed as clerk by a large real estate firm.-Plainfield Sun ____________________________________
From the Hancock News John Wiley, a student in the Milwaukee Business College, is home for the holidays. Miss Alice Scott, teacher in Camp Douglas schools, came home for the holiday vacation. We are informed that a number of Strongs Prairie farmers will try tobacco raising next year. M. Silverthorn, a student in Grand rapids Business College, is a guest of S. Ostrum’s people. Mrs. E. Caves arrived home last week Thursday evening from a several weeks’ visit with relatives in Washington, D.C. Mrs. Stupful and brother, Geo. Staley, came up from Walworth to remain during the holidcays with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Staley. Phil Dill went to Fond du Lac Wednesday to take the examination for helper in the Hancock depot. He was accompanied by his father, Geo.
