St. Matthew's Catholic Church
New Cassel/Campbellsport
Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin
The parish of St. Matthew's in New Cassel, appears to have formally organized about 1868.  The listing of original parish members survives to this day.

The list is undated, but appears to have been taken in 1868 or 1869, at about the time that thei first church building was completed. The listing appears to be in the handwriting of Andrew Dieringer, who liked to use a turquoise ink pen for the parish record book. (Jonathan Haessly used lavender!) The list contains 72 names of the heads of the households, including several widows.

At some point about 1876, the first parish listing was updated. New names were added and some of the original names were dropped from the list. Of the 72 original members, 35 had either died or moved away during the first 7 years. The 1876 listing totals 80 names. While the 7 year span shows only an increase in 8 families, a closer comparison of names reveals that the parish had a 45 percent turnover.
